COLORADO SPRINGS, Nov. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Focus on the Family founder and Chairman James C. Dobson, Ph.D., issued the following statement today after learning the Rev. Ted Haggard had acknowledged some "indiscretions" involving accusations made against him by a gay prostitute in Denver:
"All of us at Focus on the Family are heartsick over the allegation, not yet confirmed, that Ted has had a private life with a homosexual for several years. We will await the outcome of this story, but the possibility that an illicit relationship has occurred is alarming to us and to millions of others.
"Ted has been my close friend and colleague for many years. He has been used mightily to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Colorado Springs and around the world. He will continue to be my friend, even if the worst allegations prove accurate. Nevertheless, sexual sin, whether homosexual or heterosexual, has serious consequences and we are extremely concerned for Ted, his family and his church.
"We ask that the Focus on the Family constituency and Christians everywhere pray for Ted and his loved ones. Our hearts go out to all of them. Perhaps the allegations are false and the circumstances are not as we have heard. Either way, the situation has grave implications for the Cause of Christ and we ask for the Lord's guidance and blessings in the days ahead."
The thing is...Jim Bakker's repentance is very real...he lives a quiet life occaisionally helping out unobtrusively in his daughter's soup kitchen ministry or was the last time
I heard about him. He hasn't tried to claw his way back into the public light the way his wife has.
Swaggart strikes me very cold and wolf like in a veneer of lamb's clothing. Bakker was just all too human and swept up in a lifestyle and pressures that left him far from God.
The last picture I saw of him was one of deep and profound humiliation and sadness, a sampson shorn of his hair.
Perhaps God will put him in a place where like Sampson, he'll use Bakker to bring a spiritual Dagon's temple down someday!
No need for tinfoil. The prostitute admitted in an article in the Denver Rocky Mountain News that he has known who Haggard was for months and timed it to correspond with the election so as to influence voters.
Quite sad that such a man has succumbed to sin. Sadder yet that it is being exploited in an attempt to influence an election.
Brand Newborn Again, fresh from Prodigal.
"Does that include the Pope? If so, I agree."
I'm not a Catholic, but I don't worry about the Pope doing anything stupid like this.
The only one of them that has ever been worth the powder it would take to blow his nose is Billy Graham. There has never been any hint of scandal attached to him or his name. All the others are just 'wannabees.'
For any Louisiana folks reading this thread. There is an interesting Louisiana connection. Before he moved to Colorado he pastored Bethany Baptist Church in Baker. Now Bethany Prayer Center. I didnt realize that.
I am curious about that to see if Tony Perkins knew him during that time
I'll second your statement about Billy Graham. Now, there was an evangelist with no stains on his underwear. A fine man and a great preacher.
Wow. That's really alarming. I bet his statements won't be repeated by the major press. So you have a link to that story?
So he was set up to make it look even worse than it was by getting his fix from a homosexual.
All men are fallen.
Dobson should've just kept his mouth shut. This guy was a nobody and the press attention was obvious manipulation of the voters. It wasn't at all newsworthy until a notable like James Dobson opened his big mouth, and now they have an excuse to make a big deal out of nothing just because he's stepped into it.
At least not since the time of the Borgias.
The man is a sinner, hopefully a repentent sinner, and a hypocrite. How this would affect anyone's vote in this election is beyond me.
Bakker has to lead a quiet life. He is forbidden to run a church. He was doing some speaking but I hear he got warned off by the law.
Thank you very much.
jim bakker is remarried and back on TV in case you didnt know.

The LameStreamMedia will MAKE him a celebrity. You'll see plenty of him on TV.
But he and the story will somehow mysteriously disappear from our TV screens on Wed. Nov. 8th.
Yes, it most certainly is. It's a clear statement that one can hate the sin and love the sinner. Good for Dr. Dobson.
There's a lot of truth in that.
Unless something is signified in our society by "those in the know," it dies a quiet death.
"The prostitute admitted in an article in the Denver Rocky Mountain News that he has known who Haggard was for months and timed it to correspond with the election so as to influence voters."
The gay prostitute made the same statement on Denver station 850KOA this morning. He said he felt he had to "do the moral thing" and try to influence the ballot question on gay marriage.
