COLORADO SPRINGS, Nov. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Focus on the Family founder and Chairman James C. Dobson, Ph.D., issued the following statement today after learning the Rev. Ted Haggard had acknowledged some "indiscretions" involving accusations made against him by a gay prostitute in Denver:
"All of us at Focus on the Family are heartsick over the allegation, not yet confirmed, that Ted has had a private life with a homosexual for several years. We will await the outcome of this story, but the possibility that an illicit relationship has occurred is alarming to us and to millions of others.
"Ted has been my close friend and colleague for many years. He has been used mightily to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Colorado Springs and around the world. He will continue to be my friend, even if the worst allegations prove accurate. Nevertheless, sexual sin, whether homosexual or heterosexual, has serious consequences and we are extremely concerned for Ted, his family and his church.
"We ask that the Focus on the Family constituency and Christians everywhere pray for Ted and his loved ones. Our hearts go out to all of them. Perhaps the allegations are false and the circumstances are not as we have heard. Either way, the situation has grave implications for the Cause of Christ and we ask for the Lord's guidance and blessings in the days ahead."

Jones said he had thought about revealing his alleged affair with Haggard months ago but was advised by his attorney that he needed to gather more evidence.
He said he decided to come out with his story before the election to influence voters.

If its true, who cares?
The guy is a slimy grifter.
And, as so many freepers have stated, he is not running for office, so it won't matter.
The crux is that the guy is another slimy TV evangelist that has suckered his flock, the same flock that always gets suckered.
You're probably right, about Dobson and some of these leaders, anyway.

At least, I take your intended meaning to be, "I'm an atheist, but I don't proselytize for atheism?"
To say, "non-evangelical atheist" is like saying "non-Lutheran atheist" or "non-Mormon atheist"--
"I think you mean "non-evangelistic atheist"..."
No, I mean exactly what I said. Evangelical does not only mean a member of some evangelical Christian church. It also means someone who is an avid proponent of a cause or idea.
I am a non-evangelical atheist. Your definition of the word is too limited. You may consult a dictionary online, and you'll see what I mean.
However, I did remove the capital "A" from atheist. Thanks for calling attention to my tagline. I hadn't noticed that.

Eating crow as I write...my recollections were of about 7 years ago...
Some posters have just told me he has since remarried and has some new TV show...so maybe I have to eat some crow...I hope he's learned his lesson this time!
Richard Land, Al Mohler, John McArthur... are all solid. None of them throw up any red flags, and they're all measured in their speech.

The mainscream media have to have something to talk about all weekend, but they're a coupla days late and a coupla dollars short.
The last thing voters are going to remember before entering that booth on Tuesday is Kerry's revelation of the Dem's hatred for our men and women in the military.
Not some punk preacher--they're a dime a dozen--who's doing the nasty with a homo.
I can't believe that some of you guys are trying to downplay the significance of Ted Haggard!
It's one thing to say that this shouldn't matter in the elections or in the overall scheme of things (I agree, because I'd like to keep religion out of politics, and, if possible, politics out of religion) -- but people here keep saying, I never heard of the guy, Who is he, Why is he important, Who cares, He's just some punk preacher, etc., etc., etc.
Whereas, whether you guys had heard of him or not, Haggard is (or WAS) one of the major voices in the US evangelical movement.
If he was some unimportant two-bit hick preacher with no significance or influence, how do you suppose he got to be the head of the National Association of Evangelicals?
