I have some degree of pity for those whom, like Rush or Jerry Lewis, become addicted because they started out killing pain. But to become addicted to something that has no application but pleasure...that just makes me sad.

But to become addicted to something that has no application but pleasure...that just makes me sad. Truck drivers will sometimes take meth to make more money by driving longer hours. Frankly, I think I would rather have a wide awake meth addict driving that 20 ton gravel truck behind me than a sleepy tea totaller.
Maybe Haggard needed this stuff to stay awake during his sermons.
Has anyone considered that?

A lot of people who become addicted to illegal substances do so to numb overwhelming emotional pain that they don't know how to cope with, or are unwilling to cope with (face and deal with it).
