Evangelist admits meth, massage, no sex

By CATHERINE TSAI, Associated Press Writer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Evangelist Ted Haggard admitted Friday that he bought methamphetamine and received a massage from a gay prostitute who claims he was paid for drug-fueled trysts by the outspoken gay marriage opponent.

Haggard resigned as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and step down as leader of his Colorado megachurch while the two groups investigate the allegations.

He denied the sex allegations but told reporters outside his home that he did buy the meth because he was curious, but he said he threw it away.

"I bought it for myself but never used it," he said. "I was tempted, but I never used it."

Haggard, 50, said he never had sex with Mike Jones, a 49-year-old male prostitute who sparked the scandals when he told a radio station he had had a three-year sexual relationship with the minister.

Haggard said he did get a massage from Jones after being referred to him by a Denver hotel.

See post 60--it's a general question as to what the left hopes to get out of this.

And it sounds and smells utterly scripted and contrived, so, yes, I do think this is from the left.

To begin with, let me correct you at a couple of points:
First, there WERE NOT multiple drug deals; there was exactly ONE.
Second, Haggard did NOT succumb to temptation; he bought the junk then pitched it. That's not succumbing to temptation; it's grappling with the issue and finally deciding NOT to succumb. Clear-headed people usually call that "victory". And, YES, people DO, in fact, do that; not all who are tempted fall; not all who struggle lose.
Thirdly, buying drugs and using drugs are two different things, closely related, but worlds apart in outcome.

Even from the article, there's enough information for me to assert that it will come out to be EXACTLY what I said it is: A homo pot-shot at a prolific evangelical figure JUST BECAUSE he's been vocal in opposing gay marriage.

FROM THE ARTICLE (and it's EXACTLY as I described):

Jones said he went public with the allegations because Haggard has supported a measure on Tuesday's ballot that would amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage. Jones said he was also angry that Haggard in public condemned gay sex.
[emphasis mine]

ALSO from the article (if you read it all the way to the end):

Jones took a polygraph test Friday, and his answers to questions about whether he had sexual contact with Haggard "indicated deception,"...

So the homo's on the level, eh? A real truth-teller, huh?
BZZZZZT! WRONG! Guess again!
This is just a disgruntled gay guy tring to leverage Haggard's fleeting temptation into a full-on takedown with the complete cooperation of the MSM, AND, quite disappointingly, a few here at FR. But, hey, why should I expect any different? The GOP IS, after all, the Cannibal Party, right? At the first sign of anything half-shady, it's long-standing tradition to break out the carving knives and go at it.

Well, y'all pig out, now. I've got to go prep the crow for dessert.

If that is the case, then he was hooked on meth, buying and throwing it away trying to quit?

Whatever the story is, isn't good at all, and trying to whitewash him is not savory.

I'm not saying I believe what the homosexual prostitute claims, but for Haggard to admit he bought meth, admit to getting a massage from a homosexual hooker - not righteous acts for someone who is supposedly preaching the message of God.

I reserve judgement until the truth comes out. From my reading, it looks as though there may indeed have been more than one meth purchase.

And even if there was only one meth purchase and only one massage by a homosexual hooker, he's still toast. Absolute, crispy, overdone toast.

Apparently he didn't use the meth.

I'm not breaking out the carving knives. I am merely interested in applying the same standards even to "our" guys. Not interested in giving him a pass just because he's (more or less) politically conservative.

It's clear the publicity is entirely designed to throw off the election results by a combined effort of the MSM and the Democrats (as if there was a difference...). But if conservatives or Republicans (not necessarily the same thing) give them material to work with, they bear responsibility too. If the MSM, gay hooker, etc were making something up out of whole cloth it would be a different story.

No, it's not. Democrats and Liberals do this all the time. It's come to be expected of them.

And if the National Evangelical Association is involved with the National Council of Churches and/or the World Council of Churches, then it's not a conservative organization.

Riiiiiiiiight.....

"I did not smoke meth... Or pole...."

Who even knows a male prostitute off-hand?! Who would pay a male prostitute for 'a massage'?!

Perhaps the man was tempted, but in the end decided against it.

Well, from what I've read, Haggard was active in promoting marriage (iow, promoting the vote to protect real marriage), which is a conservative position. Apparently he got on the global warming bandwagon a while ago. So who knows. I know nothing about him other than what I've read today.

Would this explain it? (from the article)

Haggard said he did get a massage from Jones after being referred to him by a Denver hotel.

Who would go to the kind of hotel that would refer a male prostitute.

C'mon.... He's a pickle-chugger.... A self-loathing jockey grazer.... A devotee of The Turkish Vice....
