Evangelist admits meth, massage, no sex

By CATHERINE TSAI, Associated Press Writer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Evangelist Ted Haggard admitted Friday that he bought methamphetamine and received a massage from a gay prostitute who claims he was paid for drug-fueled trysts by the outspoken gay marriage opponent.

Haggard resigned as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and step down as leader of his Colorado megachurch while the two groups investigate the allegations.

He denied the sex allegations but told reporters outside his home that he did buy the meth because he was curious, but he said he threw it away.

"I bought it for myself but never used it," he said. "I was tempted, but I never used it."

Haggard, 50, said he never had sex with Mike Jones, a 49-year-old male prostitute who sparked the scandals when he told a radio station he had had a three-year sexual relationship with the minister.

Haggard said he did get a massage from Jones after being referred to him by a Denver hotel.

Denied the sex? Please.... Meth's main appeal is sexual in nature... of course use it long enough and you can't even have sex anymore... but that's another story.

I'm not buying the guy paid for meth and messages, but did nothing else.

The only thing I know about the New Life Church is they had a program on Bott Radio Network a while back that replaced Randy Carlson's Parenttalk On-Call. There was such an outcry from Bott listeners about the New Life show (it was mostly about dieting and very little about the Bible) that they brought Carlson's show back.

Sure sounds like the Clinton defense. At the time Clinton was president so I presume the story got a lot more coverage than this story?

the hope is that it will disenfranchise evangelical voters from voting for the GOP.

Puh-leez. He's guilty. Why would a happily married straight man go hang out for hours and get massages from a gay guy, and pay for meth and throw it away?

I feel sorry for this guy's family. My gosh, his poor wife and kids. Worse because he is famous, and the world has to know. Why don't famous people think long and hard about the shame and pain they will cause their families? Better for him to have divorced her and come out of the closet. Ugh.

"Who was massaging whom?"

Well, you've got to hand it to this gay prostitute.

He's certainly had the Evangelist by the short hairs.

Watching MSNBC. They said to the prostitute that hiring a prostitute was illegal and asked the prostitute if he would be pursuing legal charges against the pastor! No bias there!

Haggard's confession = former evangelist Jimmy Swaggert's confession

Buddy of mine counsels at a rehab, said some folks get hooked on Meth after only one use. One of his charges was a successful business man, married the prom queen, had wonderful kids. He tried meth at age 35 and within 6 months had lost everything.

I just left the "admits meth" thread to see this "admits meth and massage by gay prostitute" thread. Not good.

Why would anyone be curious about meth?

Good Grief. I am praying for the pastor and will remember him tonight. I know there is a urge in people to tell all and get things off their chest. However in this case much like Foley I wish they would just be quiet a few weeks.

despicable that this poor man and his family are being dragged through the mud by the RATS and MSM at the most difficult time of their lives. Everyone has failings. Rev Haggard is not a politician and is not running for anything. This should NOT be news. It's a private matter.
