Regards, Ivan
I haven't had any of the problems you mentioned.
Maybe it was a faulty install or the problem lies elsewhere in your specific case. I have been able to do everything you say your installation won't do, and I do it on a regular basis. So far, zero problems.
As to reverting back to older versions, they are still available....I'm not sure how you could miss that if you ever visit their home page.
Im pretty much a 80/20 FF to IE user and though I like to believe I really don't have a dog in this fight, I dont think IE7 is as bad as everyone (FF user mostly) says it is. Its also not as good as MS makes it to be but it IS a marked improvement from prior IE's.
Take that for what it's worth.
Most comments against IE and for FF I take like a campaign commercial. IGNORED.
Let me guess, and now you have problems with IE 6 opening blank windows, using new windows instead of current ones, etc. I had that last week after uninstalling 7, and it took me 3 days to track down an answer (which I can provide you, if you wish.)
I have visited their homepage and all the links point to 2.0. Don;t get me wrong, i love firefox and have used it for around 2 years. But 2.0 is not working on my machine. i removed it and re-installed and had the same issues.
Been using it since the 1st beta and aside from alot of the extensions not being compatible (most of the ones I use have been updated) it's worked great.
Thanks, but happily I discovered its yuckies right away, and did a restore.
I would suggest the real problem is in your hardware or setup skills.
Name some specifics instead or vague grumbling.
I have never had it or any earlier versions crash.
To get Firefox 1.5, you might want to check this URL: http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Firefox_1.5_for_Developers
Why does it work on all my machines, all the ones at work and on my friends' computers and not on yours....that's a mystery to me.
What I like about Firefox is the fact that it's open source and is improved upon quite often....almost daily, at times. It is not the result of committee meetings, office politics and disgruntled Microsoft programmers working under someone else's thumb.
I have no idea.........Before you insult my computer setup skills, all I did was download it and run it. It had the problems I mentioned so I removed the application and reinstalled. Same issues. I'm going to try again before I revert back but right now it's unworkable because it won't allow me to bookmark any pages so I'm using my Google bookmarks which, fortunately, I had kept most of my old bookmarks.
There is a System Restore on MS systems. It's a way of going back to a certain "point" and restoring all the settings and information that was there at the time. It may mean that any new information or settings after that point may disappear so you want to look at this closely before deciding if you want to do this or not. It was really helpful for me, though, after I "lost" a load of data when some changes I made wiped them out.
I haven't had any problems except incompatibility with extensions.
But, I don't know why that should be a complaint.
THAT ALWAYS HAPPENS with each new release. Always.
It took me two days and at least a half-dozen "do overs" to install my AT&T wireless network plugin and software. After doing it on one machine (you'd think I would have learned from that) it took two or three attempts to get it right on my other two computers after that.
I'm wondering what would make Bookmarks not work on yours though. Mine picked up the old bookmarks from 1.5 and I've added about a dozen or so since.
Maybe the "clock is ticking" on my installation and I am in for a big let-down in the near future.
What's nice is that the community of programmers that built, maintain and update Firefox are always making improvements and I'm sure they'll do the same for 2.0. I love the wealth of extensions that you can add to it. I keep expecting to see some kind of error message come up, informing me that I have installed too many extensions.
That's what got me to try it but it's the extensions that won me over. Before Firefox I was a big Opera fan but with extensions, I've given Firefox alot of what I liked about Opera and much more.
Name some specifics instead or vague grumbling.
Version 1.5 had significant memory leaks. 1.5 would also "lose" bookmarks. I got rid of that and went back to 1.07. No problems with that build. 2.0 just crashes every so often. I have no idea what's causing it. Mostly when I go to specific news-oriented web sites. After FF crashes it'll allow me to bring up the previous session, tabbed browsers and everything, so that's an improvement over leaky 1.5 but my confidence isn't there. I try to use IE as little as possible. I've never used v7.0. Funny how some Firefox fanatics come off as the moveon.org types, all in your face about what MY problem is. It's irritating. You don't know my setup and I didn't code the dang browser.
The only problem I've had with it was when I was watching my fantasy football teams this past Sunday, FF wouldn't allow the script to run that does the automatic updates for my teams.
This eventually results in FF quitting altogether.
I love to customizability of FF and much prefer it to IE. That is why I was so disappointed in 2.0. Until that point, I have had absolutely zero problems with it. BTW, my post 35 has a link to the issue. Looks like it can be easily resolved.
