So What Happened To Audio Podcasting? (Greatly Hyped Last Year, A FLOP This Year)

Remember all the hype last year about how big Audio Podcasting was going to be? Even I bought into the hype and did a few audio podcasts. Well, it turned out that audio podcasting was a big FLOP. Why? I think there are several reasons.

1. Attention span---Most people don't want to just sit there listening to someone prattle on for more than a couple of minutes. They have better things to do.

2. Boredom---Most audio podcasts are just flat out BORING. If folks want to listen to somebody, much more interesting to listen to Rush or Laura Ingraham.

3. YouTube---When YouTube kicked in last year, that pretty much killed whatever appeal there might be for audio podcasting. Much MORE interesting to watch a video than listen to an audio.

P.S. Saying podcasting is a flop now is like saying Web sites
are a flop.

I meant AUDIO podcasting. It seems people prefer to SEE video like on YouTube. BTW, I am definitely going to get a cell phone early next year that has up to 2 hours of video on it to catch some great stuff I've seen. A couple of weeks ago I saw a couple of flea market vendors get into an arguement and they started smashing each others collectibiles...until the police arrived. That would have been GREAT stuff for YouTube.

I know - and I still disagree. I am involved in podcasting - and it's huge and getting bigger. As I said before - it's like Web sites. Many mediocre ones to be sure, but they eventually reshaped news, education, entertainment etc. Radio will be all but done in about 50 years - I never listen to live radio - it's all podcast. Again - check your info - not anecdotes.
