The Cards, I believe, become the worst team in the history of baseball to win a world series.
I'm not taking anything away from how well they played in the postseason. Who would have thought after the way they played in September that they would be the champs?
Yep, lowest win total for a World Series winner. Even more amazingly, they came within 1 game of a forced tiebreaker, the loss of which would have completed the greatest September collapse in baseball history. What a dramatic comeback from the brink of disaster! A great story.

Once they got relatively healthy and replaced a couple of missing parts, it actually was NOT unexpected that the Cards would perform at a very high level.
