THE HAUNTED PALACE

BY E. A. POE, ESQ.

In the greenest of our valleys
By good angels tenanted,
Once a fair and stately palace —
Snow-white palace — reared its head.
In the monarch thought's dominion —
It stood there!

Never Seraph spread his pinion
Over fabric half so fair.
Banners yellow, glorious, golden,
On its roof did float and flow —
This — all this — was in the olden
Time long ago —

And every gentle air that dallied,
In that sweet day,
Along the rampart plumed and pallid,
A winged odour went away.
All wanderers in that happy valley,

Through two luminous windows saw
Spirits moving musically
To a lute's well tuned law,
Round about a throne where sitting (Porphyrogene!)
In state his glory well befitting,

The sovereign of the realm was seen.
And all with pearl and ruby glowing
Was the fair palace door ;
Through which came flowing, flowing, flowing,
And sparkling evermore,

A troop of echoes, whose sweet duty
Was but to sing
In voices of surpassing beauty,
The wit and wisdom of their king.
But evil things in robes of sorrow,
Assailed the monarch's high estate!

Ah, let us mourn — for never morrow
Shall dawn upon him desolate!
And round about his home the glory,
That blushed and bloomed,
Is but a dim-remembered story
Of the old time entombed.

And travelers now within that valley,
Through the red-litten windows, see
Vast forms that move fantastically
To a discordant melody;

While, like a rapid ghastly river,
Through the pale door;
A hideous throng rush out forever,
And laugh — but smile no more.<

Nah, I don't think it's because of The Rove.

Though the only one who could fix this is Chuck Norris...

I might be joining your club after the girlfriend gets here.
She's under the impression we're going out to dinner, but I'm dressed in shorts and a I Stand With President Bush sweatshirt, eagerly awaiting to tell her that we've got to spread the remaining pile of stone down my driveway.

I dunno...

Heck, I've still gotta take it (probably at least twice, maybe thrice)...

Look at it this way, you only have to take it once ;)

OTOH, why you'd need it in a polisci environment--you got me there.

Same here.

None around (and if I'm in a semirural area--like over by one of my friends), whip out the .30-06. Instant Venison...8^)

Although I have lived in the south for many years Ohio, my home state is the spookiest state of them all.

I don't know either. I won't be doing anything directly related to law, or at least I don't plan to. I can understand having it as an option. A LOT of poli sci majors plan to go into law. But to require it is a completely different thing.

It's funny, because I only have to take the law courses because I'm taking the pre-law option...

Of course, every college's curriculum is different...;)

Different...yes...or just stupid. I'm wasting too much of my time in DC doing homework. I have to work 40 hours a week and then go study, read, write papers? It's ridiculous.
