I am 2 hours post-op surgery.
The last words I heard before going under anesthesia were: "Quit Smoking"..from the anestheseologist.
The first words I heard coming out of the anesthesia, again by the anestheseologist, were "QUIT SMOKING".
Please...no pros\cons of smoking. Perhaps I'm too close to the surgery but, smoking now dries out my mouth, taste absolutely rotten and gives me a headache. I now have very little desire to smoke.
Please, no comments about no desire.
I don't think what the anestheseologist did is right. It's not his call to get me to quit smoking, it's mine...if and when I'm ready.
Is what he did legal ?
Go back and read post 85.
And it wasnt the doctor that said "quit smoking", it was the anasthesiologist...go back and read the original post.

If one of these impertinent jerk anesthetists take a notion to do so, they can screw with your head on any subject they find to be irritating to them, The patient is at his or her mercy and cannot respond.
If you cannot see the danger in this, and the violation of one's privacy and right of approval, then you are ignoring the obvious to make some point about smoking, which YOU do not approve of.
I find it interesting that many conservatives are just as ignorant as their liberal counterparts when the issue is one they take personally. It is the height of hypocrisy to advocate for one freedom and oppose another when one simply does not like that particular freedom.
This jerk violated the patients personal freedoms of choice to get him to quit smoking. He could have, and some do this on other subjects and misperceived social ills, as they see them, not you.
These people in this particular trade are about the most pompous and irritating of the human species, and they use their positions to do this sort of thing all the time.
My point was broadly phrased, and I encompassed anything you could think of from political to religious thought. It is wrong to do what that technician or Dr. did, and you are not seeing my point. You cannot justify this, without justifying all things that he could have done, and some certainly do.
The way you talk, it sounds like you won't be ready to quit smoking until you quit living. Wise up.
i paid to get hypnotized to quit smoking...( mychoice...free will)..after it was over, I was lighting up before I hit the door
not the point
I think someone needs a nice, big, hot cup, of shut the **** up. :o)

It's like a personal invasion to mess with your head like that.
To a woman it would be like going through your underwear drawer, and to a man, his shoe box under the bed.
They don't have the permission they need to do this.
An anesthesiologist is a doctor.
Do you bury bullets in your back yard, by chance?
You know who I meant smartypants.
Yes, so is a Dr. who reads X-rays for a living.
They don't have permission to exceed their scope of responsibility. They cannot act as a psychologist or therapist without your permission and a license to do so.
All kidding aside, I support stylin's freedom to be hacked off about this, but legally I doubt he has any legal standing to sue based on the evidence.
But if it were me, I'd be really ticked off if someone wispered "you hate filet migon and golf."
Why would I do that? They are expensive!:-)
"Quit Smoking" is.
"Vote Democrat" is not sound advice, period.
Then try confining your remarks to the doctor in question.
Yessss! A second vote for VICTIMHOOD!
And of all places...freerepublic.
All you can do is file a complaint with the hospital. Just like I did, when one of these freaks took me to task for voting republican.
Maybe some hungry lawyer might like to make it a federal case, but I don't know.......
Ohhh, so sorry you're honor. I'll certainly try to contain my comments to the doctor in reference.
thpppppbbbttttt....(in case you dont know...that was a rasberry) :o)
MM
I'm not sure that Dr. Who is really a physician.
...but I digress.
The anesthesiologist's actions were clearly unethical.
oops.. forgot my "p" in raspberry.
