Noooo... I like fiddling with the female controls always surprised at the responses.
On any well designed unknown system set all the adjustments to the middle of their range, apply power, select the biggest or most centrally located knob and adjust it a little up and a little down, and observe if the output moves in a desired direction, tune for 'maximum smoke' with that knob. Select the next larger/more centered knob tune it for maximum smoke when the second knob is at it's 'maximum smoke' point, go back to the first knob and retune it to it's new maximum smoke point, go back to the second knob and retune it to the new maximum smoke point.
Got that? Good.
Now go back to the first knob and retune as needed, then back to knob #2 and verify that it is at maximum smoke.
Now you are ready to adjust knob #3. when knob #3 is at maximum smoke go back to knob #1 and verify/adjust then knob #2, then #3, until the three knobs are at their best output.
Move to knob #4, and work your way through all the knobs and their best settings are attained.
Happy now?

I knew you would have the procedue down pat.. I always tune transmitters for a dip but I now know you have to tune receivers for max smoke..... No wonder wimmin are hot thangs.
