It's Time for Justice: Drop the charges vs. Duke lacrosse players
The Mercury News ^ | October 16, 2006 | Jason Whitlock

Posted on 10/18/2006 2:45:47 PM PDT by zaxxon

The charges against the Duke lacrosse players should be dropped immediately, and the people demanding the dismissal the loudest and most forcefully should be the very people who have made a living allegedly fighting against racial injustice.

I've said this before, but it's worth saying again: Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton should be in Durham, N.C., today, promising civil disobedience until the charges are dropped and prosecutor Mike Nifong resigns.

Ed Bradley and "60 Minutes" should never be mistaken for Thurgood Marshall and the Supreme Court. Bradley is just a TV reporter and "60 Minutes" is just a TV show, but you couldn't help but be moved by the story they aired Sunday night about the Duke lacrosse rape allegations.

The three accused players gave their first interviews, and two of them claimed they had airtight, documented alibis. The accuser's one-night sidekick, Kim Roberts, seems to have settled on telling the truth rather than trying to spin the story for fame or money. She contradicted several of the statements the accuser gave to police.

Dang, I wish I was there. You will never hear any of them admit an error or bad reporting -- they know full well that they have libel risk if they admit they got the story wrong. For example, the N&O buried material information. Did they act with malice and in reckless disregard of the truth? Perhaps, but they will never admit they were wrong or mistaken. That will have to be proven in court. Some folks (like Nancy Grace) may have greater exposure because of their way over the top presumptions and now are nervous at how this all turns out. What they will do is pee all over Nifong, so that if they wer edead wrong they will cite Nifong as the reason. THe press is not exactly known for being a bunch of stand up people.

I sincerely doubt that. From that N&O profile of him, he looks like an unstable individual that can go off at any moment.

I wish you were there too. They wouldn't say it out loud, but the whole implicit premise of the meeting was "how did the media manage to screw the pooch so badly on this one".

Peterson is an older (but not "old") black woman with a mouth that never stops, but she isn't what I would call smallish from the one time I saw her on TV. Not big, not small, but everything else you said about the woman sounds like Peterson. She's a racist gadfly running about looking for racism behind every tree and exaggerating what she finds which is mostly nothing, and calls herself a black activist. Here's a pic of her: http://nandotimes.nandomedia.com/ips_rich_content/278-duke2.jpg

Is that who you saw?

Maybe Cosmo should do some research on the damage that false rape claims cause for real victims, and publish THAT instead of braindead drivel.

Not the woman in that photo. Woman I saw was thinner and older. She was behind me in the very back of the room so I could only turn around for a quick look.

OK, works for me.

Look who showed up at http://durhamwonderland.blogspot.com/2006/10/horrifying.html - 8:47 PM post: Cliff Brandt, Trinity '76, a senior campaign advisor for Steve Monks

He wrote this guest column in the Chronicle.

IMO, Monks is a snake.

The headline reads "Otherwise decent men can morph into monsters when spurred on by a testosterone-fueled peer group. Learn what drives this dangerous pack behavior and how you can avoid falling victim to it." The "bad man" theory is a vital cornerstone of radical feminist dogma.

I don't know what Monks wants. He is a write-in republican candidate (in a predominantly democratic county), he has no chance of winning, all he has is a chance to split the vote. When he failed to get on the ballot, that should have been his clue to quit.
It's just too bad that he won't.

"Otherwise decent men can morph into monsters when spurred on by a testosterone-fueled peer group."

That is actually a true statement. It has nothing to do with guilt or innocence in this case.

How would you like that true statement running next to your mug shot (if you were a man)?

We have a FOX/ESPN fight in our house every morning. I win.

They are fairly happy Tuesday mornings. It's Tikki Tuesday; they pretend they are watching ESPN.

I recall a line from a movie I saw once, "'The Godfather'? Why, 'The Godfather' is the i-ching." So, why do I see Nifong being appointed DA by someone saying, "One day, I will ask you for a favor."?

I don't know what Monks wants.

That is what I am trying to figure out. What is he trying to do here?

Lets just say he wins. He gets to be the DA for one term, then another rat will get elected. He will probably make less money as the DA than in private practice. But he might gain some state benefits. He could use that position as a stepping stone to a higher office as well.

But lets be real here. He isn't going to win. The best thing that could happen to him is for Cheek to win. Because if Nifong wins his hopes of a political career are ruined.

Then there is alway the conspiracy theory that he likes Nifong and is doing this to help Nifong win. But I don't this is it. I think Monks is just a deluded nut who thinks he can win.
