...When the U.S.S. Enterprise first blasted off in 1966, only its principal characters William Shatners Capt. James T. Kirk, Leonard Nimoys Mr. Spock and DeForest Kelleys Dr. Bones McCoy among them might have expected devoted fans. But as Trekkies observe the shows 40th anniversary this year, they are celebrating not just the stars but also the background actors who manned the starships controls, beamed down to alien planets and, if they played red-shirted security guards, often got torn apart by a monster or dematerialized by a Klingon...

THAT is one of my favorite movies! They nailed the entire Star Trek experience...
My favorite line is when they are supposed to go onstage at some convention, and the Spock analog character says "There is nothing you can say to make me go out on that stage!" After which, the Kirk-analog character says: "The show must go on." And Alan Rickman says "Damn You!"

So was it a different guy each time got torn apart by a monster or dematerialized by a Klingon or did we have the undead return as red shirts?

Thanks to the author for using "Trekkies" instead of the stupid term "Trekkers" some prefer.
