I have been trying different DVD copy software and haven't been able to find one that does what I want:
1. Backup my favorite DVDs so I can keep the originals safe and play copies (I have a few that I play over and over).
2. Copy DVDs and/or tracks to hard disk to play back on the computer without having the DVD.
So far nothing does these 2 things without loss and also can't copy multi-layer DVDs (such as movies).
Thanks in advance to all my techie friends.
I had a program a few years ago that did that. However, the movie industry sued the maker of the application on the grounds of copyright infringement.Their efforts resulted in several Federal courts ruling against the maker and, thus, the maker was driven out of business.
1Click DVD Copy
But it can be done today, I think...
I'll look -- thanks!
Hmmm...although I didn't follow the case closely,I thought that the courts ruled that the part of the application that "breaks" the copy protection built into most commercial DVD's violated copyright laws, thus making such activities illegal.
dvd decrypter dvd shrink
I hope not -- but you might be right *sigh*
DVD shrink, Which is free on the net, will copy just about any dvd and also shrink double sided discs to fit on a single sided blank. For those rare dvd's that shrink cant copy use DVD decryptor, which is also free first, then use DVD shrink.
whoops...I meant dual-layered, not double-sided discs.
DVD Decrypter will NOT "rip" any dvd that has been released after 2004; and it is NOT being updated; because it is presently owned by Macrovision.
DVD Shrink is no longer being updated after 2004 either, since the developer went to work for NERO.
These softwares cannot "rip" recent DVD releases.
There's a software that is FREE, called "DVDFabDecrypter", you can find it at www.videohelp.com . This software is constantly updated, and it will decrypt the most recent releases with no problems.
DVD bookmark
You wouldn't happen to be a Netflix subscriber would you??
My desire is just what I said it to be -- for my personally owned DVDs. I don't condone theft, nor would I do it.
THANKS!
To make double-layer copies without "shrinkage" you will need a burner that writes double layers and use double-layer media.
Another way to avoid shrinkage is to stay out of cold swimming pools.
By followng all kinds of links starting at "DVD Decoder" I found something called DVD Rebuilder -- it seems to be able to handle multi-layer DVDs BUT it has been running on one of my short DVDs for the last 2 hours -- it is 80% complete but it seems to be writing work files named ".M2V" so I'll ping back if it succeeds.
Warm Jacuzzies seem to return things to normal ;)
Two hours? Sounds like a problem ...
