So you thought it was Friday the 13th. Forget about it. Today is “Diddy Day.”
Mayor Daley proclaimed it so to honor Sean “Diddy” Combs, the rapper, actor, businessman-extraordinaire who has put his fortune and fame to work for children.
The rapper appeared genuinely moved as he accepted the official proclamation - and a pair of cufflinks with the Chicago seal - for his philanthropic efforts on behalf of HIV/AIDS research and awareness and in the fight against breast cancer, just to name a few.
“I truly appreciate it. I don’t take it for granted. It’s not every day that somebody young and African-American gets to have their own day in the great city of Chicago…This is definitely an honor — especially coming from New York — for y’all to …show me such hospitality and recognize that, what I do, I…do to inspire and to motivate. I’m not motivated by money,” Combs said.
“What I do, I do to entertain people and to show kids that, if you close your eyes and dream and you open your eyes and see the realities it’s going to take you to achieve your dreams — that anything is possible. I come from the same communities as most of the kids in the inner city communities. And if I did it, they can do it.”
In his proclamation, Daley singled out the work of Daddy’s House Social Programs, Inc. That’s the Combs-founded and funded organization that provides summer camps, tutoring, mentoring, stock market skills, college visits and travel opportunities for underprivileged kids.
“He’s very talented. He’s using his fame to help others and he is a role model,” Daley said.

As much as Richie despises handguns, I wonder if he had the dude frisked for weapons before the ceremony.
Dear Mare Daley:
He should be in prison. He and J.Lo was part of that shooting on New Year's 2000, and he tried to pay off someone else to take the blame for it.

WHAT! You mean that all the public stuff about Sean John Combs is BS? Awe! C'mon! The next thing you will be telling me is that Hillary isn't the smartest woman in the world and that Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton are real blondes....
