The guy's an idiot but the sentence is too harsh. The judge needs some perspective.

Testimony indicated Mr. Downs promised $25 to one of his best players if he hurled a ball at Harry Bowers Jr., 11, an autistic and mildly retarded teammate, presumably to keep him from playing in a game.
If true, that "coach" is sick...good ruling, hope he gets the full 6...

What kind of jackass does one have to be to even consider doing something like that?

Sentence is ridiculous.
How bad can someone get hurt getting hit by a pitch from a nine year old?
Keep this in perspective. A 300 lb. pro football player steps on the bare head of a prone player and gets suspended five games. You people want this guy to go to prison.
Give me a break.

Sounds like the coach is far more mentally deficient than the poor kid he wanted to keep out of the game.
I hope he becomes somebody's "Bat boy" for the next few years.

I have had arguments with my friends about this stuff.
Any MLB player should be expelled from a game for intentionally throwing at a player. Even an accidental hit should draw a penalty. It is a horrible practice. Potentialy Ruining careers to show a bit of macho is sick. Kids pay attention to what the big leaguers do.
Teaching kids to play bean ball is an abomination.
Throw the book at this guy!

Is everyone out of their freakin' mind? The guy is a loser, but six years? Do you even get 6 years for murder anymore?
How any person, especially a Freeper could support this is beyond me. I guess I go have a Bud Light and contemplate that move to Alaska.

I recall running down a second baseman who liked to guard his base physically (this was in peewee ball where a single was the same as a triple as you could always steal your way around). Coach told me to do it next time I got the chance. The second basemens parents got themselves into a huff, but I kept my bases. The ump had read the rules. The kid learned not to park on the baseline and that a bloody nose won't kill you. I learned that I prefered football.
Should my coach have gotten 20 years too?
Eight or nine is not too early to start toughening up. They're kids, they bounce.

The guy was wrong and he should be banned from the baseball league. But 6 years??? For what?? It's freakin T-ball, the kids probably throw about 40 MPH.

Also I want to point out that this "everybody plays" crap is socialism and BS. I played soccer, football and basketball on teams when I was 11 and if an autistic kid was on my team I'd probably hate his guts. Not because he was autistic, but because he cost my team games.
Putting an autistic kid on a competitive team is just asking for trouble.

Mr. Downs' family, including his wife, a 6-week-old baby and three other children were in the courtroom for part of the hearing. But the three older children were hurried out before the actual sentencing. I've seen otherwise rational people do really stupid things over sports.
To: FFIGHTER
Idiot headline writer. Exactly how can a player "bean" another player in "T-ball"?
