Concealed Carry - Ankle holster?
Me

Posted on 10/12/2006 2:16:46 PM PDT by Chasaway

Sorry for the vanity, but I need some input from my peeps in the FR 'hood.

I run a company that provides temporary labor, (a kind of "labor hall") and a lot of the laborers that are in and out of the place are druggies, gang-bangers, ex-offenders, etc., and well, uhm...I really think it'd be best if they don't know I'm carrying. If they do find out, I want it to be the biggest surprise they ever got.

I mostly wear my shirts tucked in and I haven't found a "waistband" holster that's practical for how I work and where I am most of the time. Down here in South Texas, a jacket is rarely called for and I’m inside a lot anyway. So, I'm having a hard time carrying concealed as often and as regularly as I want.

So I'm thinking that an ankle holster might be the best bet for me.

I'm usually wearing jeans and boots (Ropers, not lace-ups), although I do spend some time in khakis and shoes. My carry gun is a Springfield Armory XD Subcompact (3") in .40 caliber. The pistol's small, but it ain't teensy, so I'm looking for an ankle holster solution that will work for both the boot and the shoe scenarios.

I'd really appreciate any advice, comments and personal experience on this (including specific models) that I can get.

Thanks gobs.

Charlie

(BTW, just in case you’re wondering…I LOVE this gun! Shoots way better than I do and eats everything I’ve fed it!)

Ankle holster?

Only if you want to walk like EYEgore in Young Frankenstein! Or Quasimoto in the Halfback of Notre Dame.

I bought something similar to this for my Derringer:

The one I bought was the cheapest thing I could find at the gun show. It doesnt have an actual holster part built into it like the one in this picture though. Mine is basically two overlapping pieces of elastic that are sewn together execpt for an upside-down trapezoid area where the gun is held into place by friction between the elastic bands. It is not the best design in the world for what you will be carrying but I thought I might mention it as an option. I think I spent $4 on it. It is held onto your leg by velcro.
