Colts DT Simon out for year with undisclosed illness
Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Corey Simon will miss the rest of the season after being placed on the non-football illness-injury list Thursday by the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts, citing federal privacy laws and a decision to protect Simon's privacy, did not divulge details about the illness.
Simon, the biggest defensive lineman on the team's roster at 300 pounds, was expected to be a major part of the Colts' run defense this year, but he has not played or practiced since banging his knee in early August.
Several weeks later, he had arthroscopic surgery, but a written statement issued by team president Bill Polian said the injury and illness weren't connected.
"It is not football related," Polian said. "Fortunately, it is not life-threatening, but it has severely limited Corey's ability to condition, practice or play and has been debilitating for him."
Simon's agent, Roosevelt Barnes, said he thought it was only the knee injury that kept him out.
"Corey had surgery on the knee and had been rehabbing, getting ready to play," Barnes said in a telephone interview from his office in Roanoke, Ind. "That's my understanding as to what kept him off the field."

What the heck...
If it's not life threatening, Simon should reveal what it is. What kind of illness keeps you out for an entire year?
That's the part I don't understand.
I could think of a couple of things... maybe Hep?
Maybe he was on the Down Low and got sick...
Mono? Hepatitis?
Whatever it is it's something he'd rather us not find out about.
Well, maybe, but from the full article, it appears that he went through a bunch of tests to figure out what it is. Hep is pretty easily diagnosed.
WTF! Poor Peyton... sheesh... the guy can never catch a break!
He's going to have give his defense a big lead to protect. Otherwise the opponents are going to pound away with their ground game.
no doubt! just like last year, and the year before... and they year.. you get the point.. then when they lose everyone will point fingers at Peyton and say that its his fault! LOL
It's hard to score many points when the other team has the ball for 2/3 of the game.
no doubt, the Colts defense this year is look pretty poor... :( its been driving me crazy! at least my Bears have been making me happy so far this year! :D
This sounds kinda like the "infection" that Giambi had a couple years ago. The one that kept him out most of a season while he got clean from steroids?
I'm going to be seeing the Bears live when they travel to Foxboro later this year. That's the first Sunday where they'll decide which game will be the Sunday night game. Now supposedly Fox and CBS get to protect their top game each week. However I suspect the NFL will put pressure on Fox to give that game to NBC so the whole country can see it.
