Help! Almost two years ago, hubs began having an itchy rash. The only thing that calms it is taking steroids, not good. It's been a tossup whether it's a dermatological or an allergy problem. He's seen two dermatologists who've biopsied and found nothing.
Also, full battery of allergy tests and is allergic to a lot, soy in particular. It's said that the rash is possibly a form of psoriasis that lasts 2-5 years. When it's full bore he scratches while asleep and wakes up bleeding.
Any help would be appreciated...thank you...
Where's the rash - all over?
Yes the tick bites. I have had a few friends get rashes and major headaches from it this summer. They had no clue it was lymes until I told them to get their doctors to test them. The spray is very refreshing, I use it alot when we camp. I keep tea tree oil in the house all the time. I keep a couple of spray bottles with a few drops of tea tree oil and bottled water around for all kinds of things. It works well on kids scrapes and doesnt seem to burn. Just don't use it full strength on your face. It also works as a mouth wash when a tiny drop is added to a cup of water. I also use it on my pets coat to keep them clean and shiny. It also works well when adding a few drops to shampoo.
No way to tell for sure, of course, and I wouldn't undergo treatment on the basis of an FR post! I'm just noting there are some very learned individuals around here, from all walks of life.
Prednisone is bad news. There has to be something better for itch. Tell him to try Aveeno anti itch creme
Good, as there are also some wackos around here.
Oddly enough, it's everything but jock itch. It began after we stayed at the Holiday Inn at Padre Island for a friend's wedding two years ago next month.
No, we live in San Antonio, 200 miles from Stinkadena.
Go here and read for a few days: http://askwaltstollmd.com/index.html
Warning: The posters on the bulletin board are very liberal
From my understanding, skin problems stem from leaky gut syndrome and the first line of healing comes from learning how to do skilled relaxation. Read the article on the site about bracing. Read it all.
Thare things he can do right now, one of which is eliminate all dairy and wheat from his diet for a few weeks and see if that helps. He might want to also start taking some EFAs (essential fatty acids). The poster above who suggested the oatmeal baths has a good suggestion. Colloidal oatmeal which can be bought at the drug store is very soothing for skin. Get a packet and put it in a bath and have him soak in it before bedtime.
As someone who has had their share of skin issues for a very long time, I've found that dermatologists are useless, at least for my situation and probably your husband's. However, they are good at getting you a little more comfortable. Unfortunately, they don't have any cures and don't seem open to other avenues unless it's in a pill or lotion.
Since I've been reading Dr. Stoll's site and really working on relaxing and eliminating "bracing," something I found I've been doing in my sleep for decades, my situation is so much better there's just no comparison.
Thank you!!!
Seriously, try the Aveeno anti-itch creme
Hahaha, very funny! No. The rash doesn't 'move.'
Have bedbugs been ruled out? You said it started right after staying at a holiday inn.
That was my first thought. He had some 'cheer' at the wedding and was thrashing around in his sleep, so I moved to the other bed. Even so, if it were bugs, I'd have them by now, wouldn't I?
Sorry, couldn't resist. Have you checked a dermatologist?
Hahaha. Seriously, it's been biopsied and they found nothing. And, I sleep with him and I got nothing.
That last sentence may be a bit misleading:)
Let me clarify: I got something, but it wasn't buggy or rashy! ;o)
You had mentioned some allergies. Sometimes non-traditional medicines can be helpful in these instances. I know of cases where it was a particular food that set off itching. If you live near a metropolitan area, it might be worthwhile to consult with an osteopath or even a naturopath and see if they can uncover something.
LOL
