LAFAYETTE: Teenage killer sentenced to life without parole [Dyleski]

Dyleski imitated his idol, Jack the Ripper, judge says -

Comparing him to Jack the Ripper, a Contra Costa County judge sentenced teenager Scott Dyleski to life in prison without parole Tuesday for killing his Lafayette neighbor Pamela Vitale last year by bludgeoning her to death.

Dyleski, 17, was convicted in August of murdering Vitale, the wife of prominent East Bay attorney Daniel Horowitz, on Oct. 15, 2005. Vitale was found with a double-crossed "T" etched into her back with a knife and another stab wound to her stomach that exposed her intestines.

On Tuesday, the former Boy Scout did not address the court. He did not visibly react when Vitale's father, Verne Ludtke, called him a human predator, when Ludtke's wife, Carol, branded him as evil, nor when Superior Court Judge Barbara Zuniga castigated him from the bench.

"Sir, you do not deserve to live among decent people. Your commitment is going to be for life," Zuniga said in her Martinez courtroom.

Although he was charged as an adult, Dyleski did not face the death penalty because he was 16 when he killed Vitale. He will turn 18 on Oct. 30.

"People do not want to understand and do not want to accept that someone who looks like you, who's the young man living next door, can be so evil," Zuniga said in rejecting the alternative sentence of 25 years to life in prison,

. . .Zuniga said many people had commented on Dyleski's apparent "lack of affect" during the trial. Those observers, she said, were wrong. When gruesome autopsy photos of Vitale were projected on a screen, "I saw you lean forward, and your mouth fell open," the judge said. "You were absolutely fascinated by your handiwork."

Oh, spare me the button-down oxford cloth shirt!

Somebody probably had to show him how to button it - it's not weird enough looking for him, the "fashionista," "murderista," to wear. People wouldn't stare at him like he wants.

Well, prison will cure that, anyway. Prayers for Mario, Marisa and the Ludtke's.
