Mel Gibson's standing ovation

Monday, 25th September 2006, 12:23

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Mel Gibson received a standing ovation at a preview for his new movie, 'Apocalypto'.

The actor-director - who has kkept a low profile since making anti-Semitic comments and being charged with drink-driving - made a surprise appearance at a screening of the Mayan adventure film at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas on Friday (22.09.06).

Addressing the crowd, Mel drew parallels between the movie's subject matter and today's world saying: "The precursors to a civilization that's going under are the same, time and time again.

"What's human sacrifice if not sending guys off to Iraq for no reason?"

The two hour long version shown at the event was a rough cut of the finished product di not have any sound effects or musical score.

Mel was recently invited to meet with three prominent American Jewish groups, after his apology for making anti-Semitic remarks when he was arrested for drunk driving.

The 'Lethal Weapon' actor's outburst happened as he was being questioned by a California police officer after he was caught speeding through Malibu, California, while under the influence.

The 1939 Club, New York's Museum of Jewish Heritage and a Beverly Hills rabbi have all reached out and asked Mel to meet with them.

I think this civilization is in decline, but not for the reasons Mel cites.

The sacrifice of innocent human being began in 1972, with Roe v. Wade.

A society that even cares what actors think on policy matters is in decline.

Substance abuse by people who are supposed to be responsible causes a civilizational decline.

His long-term anti-Americanism carries the day, I see.

"What's human sacrifice if not sending guys off to Iraq for no reason?"

This flick's going nowhere, IMO.

Mel's pretty smart in some ways but he's a total idiot in others. The death of our civilization isn't going to be because of something the Jews do or because of George Bush sending soldiers to Iraq. If it happens, it's going to be one of two things--probably both of them combined--the enemy within and Muslim nuts. Mr. Gibson needs to pull his head out and see what's going on in the world.

I like Mel but I'm not espousing the decline of western civilization based on what is going on in bars and highways of Malibu.

Mel you may have another excellent movie on your hands but the history of Iraq isn't over and you may live long enough to eat those words.

"What's human sacrifice if not sending guys off to Iraq for no reason?"

In line with Mel's earlier pronouncements.

Looks like this movie is his apology to the Hollywood Liberal Masters for doing "The Passion."

Now I see that Mr. Gibson, too, is suffering from the "I'm smart because I'm famous" disease.

Gee. I wonder what Mr. Gibson thinks about the Monroe Doctrine?

I suppose Mel Gibson is redeeming himself to liberals for his outburst and The Passion. Liberals - the rabid abortionists - forgive the Muslims' anti-abortion stance. Why not Mel's anti-Semitic comments and, more urgently, his Catholicism?

I see - - Mel is pandering to the scumbag left in order to atone for his drunken rant.
Yeah, that'll help him.

"What's human sacrifice if not sending guys off to Iraq for no reason?"

This must be a pathetic attempt at getting himself back into Hollywood's good graces. It sure isn't anything resembling individual thought.

Conservatives tend to go overboard in their adulations at times.

I never understood the ga-ga attitude toward Mel Gibson. He has always been anti-war and has never hidden it.

That being said, he is pro-life and is a christian.

I am still just as grateful to him for "The Passion". But he certainly has always had his liberal side.
