I installed Beryl and the latest Nvidia drivers last night. Edgy has AIGLX built in, so you don't need XGL.
I have Vista RC1 on my other computer and it looks like a dolled up XP.

Is Edgy free? And what's the versus part of your title? Or are you asking for comparisons?

That screenshot captures the most useless feature I've ever seen.

Why is it useless?

Must be that "internet in a box" new fangled thing Microsoft was touting 10 years ago.

Why do you have your desktop turned into a cube?
Looks a bit silly to me.

Probably the screensaver. XP has that feature.

Dude, you've lost me. What is the purpose of this post? Does your image somehow illustrate Vista vs. Ubuntu? Do you have any other information to share aside from the fact that you've installed both operating systems? I'm not trying to be snide, but I don't see where you're going with this. All I can see for sure is that you're an MS basher, based on your "Windoze" comment.

does Ubuntu Edgy run Flash 8,9 or Photoshop CS2? No? oh thats what i thought.
To: philetus
Why is it not useless? It adds nothing to productivity, has barely any functionality, and is potentially the most confusing interface style I have ever seen. "Multiple desktops" are one thing. "Huge spinning cube with each face able to carry into the next" is absolutely inane.
Linux vendors need to work on their 2D UI design before worrying about transitioning to 3D. It's almost as if they added this feature simply because they could, rather than because they had any compelling design reason to do so.

What you find confusing, many find very productive. Ah, but that's the deep end of the pool for you...

No, I like W2k pro. It's a good OS.I can't come up with one reason to move to XP or Vista.
I think Vista shows MS has lost any imagination they ever had.
Windows will do the job, but it's not fun.

A box that can have 4 different websites open and to go from one to another, all you got to do is grab the screen and turn it.
I think it's a pretty cool developement. No telling where it can lead.
