I guess in a few years our grandchildren can read about this perp's execution.

Why did you make illegal a keyword? Because we might not know that it's illegal to kill a Houston cop, or because you have reason to believe an illegal alien did the shooting?

"Officer fatally shot by suspect in patrol car"

(9/21/06 - KTRK/HOUSTON) -
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The male was handcuffed and placed in the back seat of Johnson's patrol car. Somehow, the suspect shot Officer Johnson as he sat in the front seat of the vehicle. Johnson was able to push an emergency button, alerting dispatch.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the suspect still sitting in the patrol car. He was still handcuffed. A weapon was recovered at the scene. The man was taken into custody.

Officer Johnson was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He is survived by his wife, Joselyn Johnson, who is also a member of the HPD force. The couple have five children, ages 14 to 19.

Officer Johnson was 40 years old. He was a 12 year veteran of the force. Before becoming an officer, he was a jailer.

The suspect is described as an Hispanic male, about 32 years old. He is in police custody, but they have not been able to verify his identity."

I listened and watched while that was going on, from when they took him to the hospital until when the reporter said she was allowed to say that he had died, which she had already known but didn't want to broadcast.

Perhaps at 10PM, the news will tell more - it sounded like the bad guy had hidden a gun somewhere on his person that wasn't found in a pat-down and started shooting from the back seat of the cruiser. (Remember, this happened before, too!)

He shot the officer "numerous times" in the head. Last I saw, the perp, in dreadlocks, was shaking his head back and forth "No!" when detectives tried to question him. He was hog-tied at the time.

It's deja vu all over again.........same thing happened in Houston about 12 years ago. An officer didn't pat the suspect down good enough and he was shot from behind while transporting the perp. So sad. My sympathies to his wife and children.
