Changing of the Aspens in Colorado from last weekend's trip - Poudre Canyon / Hwy 14
My digital camera | Thursday September 21st, 2006 | ajolympian2004

Last weekend (Fri. Sept. 15th to Sunday Sept. 17th) we went to Steamboat Springs, Colorado for the first time to hike, run, play golf and have a look at local real estate. On the way we captured the changing of the Aspen trees on digital camera along with a couple of shots of Steamboat Springs ski resort after they had about 8 inches of snow on Storm Peak and Mt. Werner during the day on Saturday.

Aspens from Poudre Canyon on Highway 14 in Larimer County WNW of Ft. Collins -

---

A couple of pics of Steamboat Springs ski resort just before leaving town on a Sunday morning with temps in the high 20's -

We enjoyed the snow, but it wiped out our tee time Saturday at Haymaker golf course just southeast of town.

Thanks for the Steamboat Springs pictures.

Brings back memories.

Ever visit the hot pots a little ways out of town?

No snow in Fairbanks. Tenth frost already. All the leaves, birch and aspen, are changed and most gone already. The larch looks odd as the only yellow tree in a sea of black spruce.

No, this was our first time visiting the area. We are definitely going to return for a ski trip early next year. We have to find out about the hot pots. (or did you mean spots???)

Spectacular! #6 and #8 are wallpaper-worthy! Oh, I love fall.

So, you went into Steamboat from the east? Guess you didn't see Rabbit Ears, then? It's to the south.

Yeah, we came over from Ft. Collins on Hwy 14 over Cameron Pass then across to Hwy 40 and over Rabbit Ears Pass into Steamboat Springs. On the way home there were maybe 20 snowmobilers enjoying the 6+ inches of snow around Rabbit Ears pass.

Being our first time in the area our sense of direction was out of calibration.

BTW, if you want the full digital version of these pics just let me know and I'll upload them to place where you can get them.

Thank you! I saved them and will see what I can do - may not have to do that, but thanks for offering. I love them.

Snow at Rabbit Ears already? "Cool" - ha ha! So, did you see the Ears when you were there? IOW, did you look up?

PS - Yeah, it worked just from those. The #6 is my wallpaper now! Love it.

FYI - I have *never* changed my wallpaper, ever - first time I liked something enough to do it! Thanks again.

Just go to the pic you want, put your cursor on it, and right-click, then click "save as background" and there it is! Don't know how I'll take it off (but I have an idea - in settings, desktop, probably) - but I may not ever want to!

Great pictures!

I skied 6 straight winters, and worked at a family camp for the 5 summers in between, and was never there at the end of the summer to see the Aspen turn. Thank you for sharing your pictures with us. What a sight!
