I suspect reality will be somewhere between Pournelle's "Lucifer's Hammer" and "The Postman." NO WAY Hollywood would let stuff like that out this close to an election without the RATs screaming holy heck.

Don't know about the topography of Kansas, but aren't there any bikes in Jericho? If so, why don't some of the residents hop on them and go get help. That is if that hasn't happened yet. Too logical, I guess.
