Anna Nicole 'pockets £300,000' from pictures of dead son
Daily Mail ^ | September 19, 2006

Anna Nicole Smith's representatives have allegedly secured more than £318,000 for the last pictures of her dead son.

The former Playmate posed with tragic Daniel and his new sister in a Bahamian maternity ward the night before he was found dead.

Daniel, 20, was discovered slumped in a chair at the hospital on September 10.

Authorities in the Caribbean have launched an inquiry into the sudden death of Daniel, who was known to be taking anti-depressants at the time.

Smith's representatives and her photo agent Getty Images have reportedly been paid the cash by a US magazine and TV shows.

In Touch magazine paid a reported £212,000 for the print exclusive.

And the Paramount-produced television shows 'Entertainment Tonight' and 'The Insider' allegedly paid an estimated £132,000 for the TV rights.

"There is an incredible amount of emotion attached to this story and the photos, and our story will be a tribute to Daniel's life as well as a celebration of it," an In Touch spokesman said.

"I'm told that Anna Nicole has vague plans to use a portion of the money for a Daniel Smith memorial and it wasn't clear yesterday what percentage of the proceeds Getty is taking as a commission," a New York Daily News columnist wrote.

Anna Nicole Smith has still not been seen publicly since the sudden death of her son.

A spokesman for Paramount Television did not make a comment.

You're right. Look at the Tom Cruise-Brad Pitt, and all the other celebrities that prostitute pictures of their spawn for big bucks. No difference to me.

If she knew her son was going to die and she was going tosell the pictures, she would have fixed herself up a little better.

I expect a mother to love her child, and to do whatever it takes to ensure his survival. That should not surprise anyone.

"There is no way to express the sickness of this woman if this proves true."

What is sick about it? She would have made money from the photos even if he had lived. Perhaps not as much but it isn't her fault that the photos were bid up after he died. Anyone who thinks these were just family photos she decided to sell after her son died is clueless.

Celebrities often invite a photo agency to photograph their new borns. They do this for two reasons. One is that they don't want to risk the health of their babies by taking the new born out of the hospital and into a crowd of paparazzi all fighting each other to get the first photos. Another is to make money for charities or for a trust fund for their babies.

There is nothing "sick" about it.

"She could have just posted the pics on the Internet and then there would have been no way for anyone to make money off the pics."

The tabloids would still make money off of them. She would have just saved them the expense of having to pay for them. Anyway, why is it her responsibility to make the photos available to the public?

Not that I am really following this all that close...but...Cyril Wecht (former Coroner of Allegheny County--Pittsburgh--so it is in the local media quite a bit) said that he saw no evidence of foul play and that his autopsy results would be pending the return of toxicology tests. His thoughts, and he tends to be incredibly accurate and articulate, were that DS had unfortunately took several harmless meds (one being the depression script) and that the mixture would be found to have adversely affect DS's central nervous system. Again, Dr. Wecht said no foul play evidence on the body.

I think you have the right idea, Monday. We really don't know who took the photos (maybe the lawyer, maybe Daniel, or maybe a hospital staff member--as a favor, etc., or a trusted member of the media--to control the release of the photos, ala Cruise and Brangelina.) In any event it is obvious that the photos predate Daniel's passing, so in addition to the grief, her people had to think...hey what about those photos they just took?

"We really don't know who took the photos "

It was a photographer from the photo agency Getty. They took the photos of the BABY for planned release to the media. It was just fate that Daniel was even in the photos.

Her people didn't have to think about what to do with the photos because they were always in the hands of Getty who auctioned them off just as had been agreed before Daniel even died.

Thank you for clarifying that. Btw, Hollywood Grind, is now posting that DS was hospitalized, for several days, in an CCU for an elevated heartrate and stomache problems. It also reports the drugs were the scripts Lexapro (anti-depressant) and Ambien (sleep aid).

I heard on the radio this morning that she will be using most of the funds on a memorial for her son. No mention of what type of memorial.

Why would an American go to Bahama to give birth?

The picture in post #5 reminds me of the true value of the makeup artist in Hollywood.

I read that she was recently granted permanent residency status by the Bahamian government. If this is true,it could be that she'll,at some point, renounce her US citizenship and, thus, possibly save a ton of $$ in US taxes if she wins the estate battle.

Hey, if this is her way of dealing with the loss of her son, who are we to judge her in this time of grief?

I think if you buy RE in the Bahamas you 'are' a citizen (no renouncing of your actual citizenship). Its kind of an honorary thing.

is that dirt or the famed pregnancy MASK that is making her face look like that? or my eyes/monitor?

She looks like she's been in a tanning bed. Anna Nicole, Pamela Anderson and Heather Locklear are all ladies who need make-up to look even mildly acceptable.

i don't know, i think she looks hideous in this pic WITH makeup, i would take the unevenly tanned face without makeup over this...

i think she looks like a transvestite!
