Eagles' gigantic collapse had familiar ring

FORGET ABOUT it Jake, it's Phillytown. You've been here plenty of times before. This was not the first Eagles lead you've seen vanish like a sand castle in a tsunami.
And if Andy Reid, a veteran coach now, not the greenhorn who came here from Green Bay with a head and playbook crammed with bright ideas, keeps revisiting the mistakes he has admitted to in the past, well... lead you've seen vanish like a sand castle in a tsunami.
Well, Phillytown is gonna give you a lot more heartbreak-splashed afternoons to file in the forget-about-it file. lead you've seen vanish like a sand castle in a tsunami.
The Phillies' epic 1964 collapse began with a Chico Ruiz steal of home against Art Mahaffey. It was a curious play at the time, mainly because it held up as the only run of the game. The Phils still were 90-61 with a 5 ½-game lead and just 11 to play. lead you've seen vanish like a sand castle in a tsunami.

Ha! Love the "Chinatown" parallel. Birds and their high-priced jive qb are overrated.

in keeping with this post, you have to end every reply with "lead you've seen vanish like a sand castle in a tsunami." lead you've seen vanish like a sand castle in a tsunami.

True dat, and I'm not even much of a Philly fan.

Eli got lucky on that Hail Mary TD of his/Plaxico's.

"Let me taste your tears Iggle fans. Mmmm they are so yummy and sweet. The tears of unfathomable sadness. Yummy."

What a great Schadenfreude weekend, Florida beats Tennessee, and f$u and scUM go down. (The "U" now stands for "unranked." :))

McNabb was on his way to a career day until his overrated head coach blew it.

If Andy Reid actually beleved in running the football the Giants wouldn't have had time to come back.

Wonder how much longer Coker will get...remember, der Clintonista's "Donna" is the "U" prez. Also, I wonder if Bowden will finally pull the plug on his coaching career as he and Penn State's "Joe Pa" are clearly on life support. Phillip Fulmer on hot seat, too, but you'll have to admit to a pretty gutsy effort against the 'Gators. The 'Gators, IMHO, will get their comeuppense when they meet the 'Dawgs in Jax...

Eli got lucky on that Hail Mary TD of his/Plaxico's.

QB Eli Manning completed 31 of 43 pass attempts for 371 yards, 3 touchdowns and one interception for a QB rating of 111.7.

He was also sacked -- what -- 8 times?

Tennessee is definately better, but I was very impressed at how the Gators shut down their running game. Also finally, the Gators got a game-clinching first down. How many times during the Z--k era did they fail to get that first down or stop an opponent on fourth down and lost the game.

Georgia looks good, but they haven't played anyone yet, and Stafford, while he will be a great QB, is still just a Freshman.

McNabb was on his way to a career day until his overrated head coach blew it.

He's a good qb, but the media makes him out to be the best there ever was simply because he's an A-A. The best there ever was is, IMHO, Marino followed by Montana, Tarkenton, Elway, Unitas, Stauback, Bradshaw, et al. McNabb's nonchalant attitude (evidenced by the "hip" failure to snap his chinstrap) gets to me. His antic of faking the snap and resulting in the "false start" was a crucial part of the game.

I had the game on and saw a few key moments...Eli's pass to Toomer was a good pass...that's the one that got them back in the game. Then the overturning of the (bad) call on out of bounds shifted the momentum to the Giants. Once you get to sudden death, a little luck can be the difference, and you can lose a game quicker than a sandcastle in a tsumami.

Poor play down the stretch by the Eagle corners is what lost the game. Also give the Giants running game some credit for some crucial ball-control after Tiki had been bottled up most of the day.

If I were a Cowboys fan, I would have been rooting for the Eagles to beat the Giants on the theory that they'd have a letdown against my team the next week. Now you have to play a PO-ed Eagle team without TO. Wouldn't want to be the Cowboys next week.

Doesn't change the fact that he threw a duck on the last play. OTOH, it amazes me that Eli's stats compare favorably with Peytons. 2 different offenses, yet Eli's numbers stack up well.

"...Wouldn't want to be the Cowboys next week...."

I would. Dallas has a bye week next week. The Phily game is three weeks from now. Our next game is Tennessee Oct. 1. Phily is after the Titans. T O should be able to play some. If not, our recievers are more than adequate to handle the load.
