Love the looks but arguably one of the worst rear suspensions ever placed in a high-performance car.

On which, the Mercedes? Is that "high performance?"

The 300SL, in its day, was definitely a high-performance car. Three liters, 240(?) HP, 4-speed, and a swing-axel rear suspension that was one, or two, steps removed from A Volkswagen Beetle. Steering didn't have much to recommend it either.
