In an blockbusting EXCLUSIVE interview on Dateline NBC, correspondent Matt Lauer sat down with Debra Lafave, the 23 year-old teacher who had sex with a 14 year-old boy on several occasions which made national headlines.
For some ungodly reason, NBC decided this was a groundbreaking story that needed to be told to America. I have one question
Why is Debra Lafave on television?
There have been notable people who have earned the right to recognition. Sports heroes, movie stars, business and religious leaders, respected politicians and cultural groundbreakers have all proven worthy of the media attention paid to them. That is why we feel we know Michael Jordan, Jennifer Anniston, Donald Trump, Reverend Billy Graham, John McCain and Simon Cowell. They have been talented, colorful, daring, mesmerizing, dynamic, blessed and outrageous! But, they have not broken the law, are not mentally ill and do not continue to lie and be in denial about their irresponsible behavior... [more at CaliforniaRepubic]

I have heard that the reason the prosecutors backed down in this case is that Ms. Lafave was just one of the many sexual conquests of the "victim".
BS. you think good and moral kids can't make a mistake and give in to temptation? that is ludicrous on it's face. and for you to say so really gives you no leg to stand on with respect to criticizing someone else's powers to observe the world around them. do you HAVE kids? i have a 14 yo son and daughters 12 and 17. i am intimately familiar with what all sorts of kids are like at that age and their respective differences.
I certainly appreciate your civil discourse on an issue that some people can disagree wildly on.
I agree with the laws in place that prevent adults from having sexual relationships with minors, for all the reasons that have been mentioned.
Because people may have sexual urges or attractions that do not conform to social norms, that does not automatically mean that people act on them.
The fact that an adult man may see a 15 year old female(or an adult woman may see a 15 year old male) and find her/him sexually attractive is not the point. The point is, that there are laws, limitations and social restrictions that are in place in a structured society to keep those kinds of liasions from taking place.
That men (and women) for the most part adhere to those laws, limitations and social restrictions is what makes us men and women, not beasts. It is our rationality that makes us human.
Deb must be exceptionally lazy or stupid or depraved, though, to think that this was a good way to get what she wants, whether stardom or love or sex.
Ummm....Teachers Unions and the public education system?
I had read where a young person is much more likely to be sexually molested in the Public School system than in a Catholic church parish.
anyone have the Clinton "I'd hit it" pic? want to email it to someone
Exactly!
And there are those who can twist these inclinations and desires and make them acceptable.
As we've seen several justifications on these threads. "It's OK because........" No it's not OK. Not if it serves one and opens the door to injuring others.
Boundaries with children and youth are there for a reason.
Destroy those boundaries and you are creating chaos. You destroy that individuals ability to creat boundaries or even understand their purpose. For selfish reasons no less.
Sounds like the Marcello Mastriani movie where he can only get it up if there is some danger involved.
Lauer's a horn dog?
What is the saying "different strokes for different folks"?
More like "Some girls are just stupid".
Well stupidity is DEFINITELY not sex-linked.
Debra Lefave is old news. There is a teacher/student sex scandal at one of the local schools in my area right now:
Female teacher and FEMALE STUDENT. On top of all that, the teacher's father is a big wig in the school system here.
No, but it can definately tell you who not to date or marry, that's for sure.
"Just think of all the daughters that are represented by the males posting here. Kinda makes me sad for the quality of father's represented here.........."
It's surprising how some men will always see themselves as perpetual teen boys rather than the adult men that they actually are. I feel more sorry for the daughters of these males, but I hear what you are saying.
Great album!! So was Piece of Mind, in reference to your tagline.
Yup.
Me in a parking lot:
Sex, sex, sex, where did I park, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, where are my keys, sex, sex, sex whoa! Puddle! sex, sex, sex.
You're only the second person to snap to that in about a year!
Yes they were both most epic albums, among my favorites.
You don't find too many Maiden fans on these threads.
We call those "DSLs."
