MSNBC's Rita Cosby is reporting that Duane Dog Chapman, star of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," and two members of his bounty hunting team (including his son) were arrested by U.S. officials today for extradition to Mexico. Cosby is reporting that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.
In 2003, Chapman traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to retrieve Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster, who was wanted in the U.S. on rape charges. Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term. The Chapmans were jailed in Mexico for a brief time for the incident three years ago. Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.
Dog's wife, Beth Chapman, said 12 armed marshals "came through the door" at 6:00AM this morning. She said they took their daughter's boyfriend down at gunpoint. Dog was sleeping at the time.
TMZ spoke with Nicky Credic from the U.S. Marshals Office. She said, "The arrest warrant was signed by a U.S. magistrate in Hawaii on September 13. The warrant was based on a formal request based on a diplomatic note from the government of Mexico."
I don't care for "Baby Lisa" she seems to be there for the perks.

I am of the lay opinion ... that we should thumb our noses at Mexico. Playing by the rules sucks if you're the only one playing by the rules.
In this case Mexico did play by the rules, in fact they didn't wait for an extended extradition procedure. The Mexican Court immediately expelled Luster for immigration violations.
Like it or not, THAT IS THE TRUTH! Ask military who were stationed there and you will hear these feelings echoed.

But demanding a U.S. citizen sign in, at a Mexican court every Monday?

What stupidity?? Typical bonds require the person making bond to remain within the jurisdiction of the Court. The Court can attach any provisions it deems necessary to insure the appearance of the defendant. The bondsman can place additional requirements on the person he is bonding. No foul here......

So??? Mexico is a soverign nation and it's Courts are empowered by it's laws to apply it's own provisions to bail bonds. It's no different here or in Europe, the Far East, or any other soverign nation.
When you are in another country you are subject to that nation's laws. Bellyaching about it doesn't change reality. Chapman is accused of violating Mexican laws and failing to honor the requirements of his bail bond that he agreed to. Even the Court in Santa Barbara California found that he acted without authority in this matter and rejected his claim for any reward or "bounty" moneys.
I think if you will check ED was just plain wrong when she said "they wouldn't send us the rapist." The Mexican Court didn't entertain any hearings on extradition. They promptly "expelled" Luster for immigration violations.
With all due respect to jurispridence as it relates to soverign nations and international law .....
Piss on Mexico. When they fill the hole which bleeds into the United States I'll give a rip about Mexican law.

I and others might agree with you if it was just a case of "rule of law" but Mexican Gov't officials and police are corrupt. When they are concerned about the "rule of law" of other nations then Americans will respect theirs.

I am white and was born in Hawaii. I've never had a big problem. Furthermore, native Hawaiians constitute a very small percentage of the population. The percentage of native Hawaiians who are racist in the mainland sense of the word are even smaller. They are just more noticable because they are generally unemployed and hang out at the beach all day.
People in Hawaii are very free with racial slurs and stereotypes. They do not have the same taboo about them as they do on the mainland and they do not have the same inent behind them. If you listen to Hawaiian comdey you will begin to understand this. I think alot of the problems arrise over people coming from the mainland and not realizing that Hawaii is VERY different culturally from the rest of the US. They just assume that its just like anyother state. Conversely, of course, a healthy percentage of people in Hawaii don't realize that our brand of racial humor and racial interaction might be offensive to mainlanders. This is especially true if your dad was stationed there in the 70's. The guy who called your Dad a haole was most likely busting his chops. Hawaii's history is very divergent from the rest of the US. Hawaii was its own nation for 100 years before becoming a territory. We are the only state that has an actual Royal Palace. Hawaii is the only state where white people are not the ethnic majority. Make no mistake, we are very much Americans, it is just that this fact leads some to forget that we are a very unique state.
In the last 30 years more and more Hawaii residents have gone to the mainland for college and have begun to understand the difference. I know I personally had to learn this lesson the hard way. I found myself saying things every now and then that would produce shocked faces on my friends that wouldn't even cause one to blink in Hawaii.
Islands comment on Dog's arrest. Anyone defending this obviously has never dealt with the Mexican "legal" system. We might ask, "why was it necessary for Dog to go get the Max Factor guy if we have an extradition treaty with Mexico in the first place?" If you cannot answer this question I'll tell you. The Max Factor guy was rich. The police who would have arrested him are poor and corrupt. As the great TV show Arrested Development said, he found a "loop hole" in the Mexican legal system.
Furthermore, one should ask how Americans are treated in Mexican jails. After that if you still think Dog deserved this you need your head examined.
We need Dog in Hawaii.
It's ridiculous that anyone demand that we accept and respect their sovereign law when their country, from Fox on down, has no respect for our laws including the right to close/patrol our borders.

Start a campaign for everyone to e-mail or write the US Marshalls and ask that if they can extradite the "Dog" bounty Hunter, then why can't they send back all the illegal aliens? I for one am tired of opening my local newspaper and seeing a headline where a Mexican, AKA illegal alien killed someone either fighting or drunk driving.
