Where is the best beer in America?
According to Men's Journal magazine, it's in Paso Robles, Calif.
The magazine ranked Firestone Walker Pale Ale as the best beer in America, followed by Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, which is produced in Milton, Del.
Rounding out the top five are Stoudt's Pils, of Adamstown, Pa.; Russian River Temptation Ale, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and Avery Mephistopheles' Stout, of Boulder, Colo.
It has chosen what the editors call the top 25 craft brews that this country has to offer.
The company said its editors put their "sensitive palettes to the test" and have determined the most flavorful microbrews, also judging on the basis of it being refreshing while appealing to a variety of different tastes.
Men's Journal's third annual survey of the Best Beers in America is featured in its October issue.

You're welcome. On the bigger point, I'll defer to your expertise since you follow the industry while I'm just a googling monkey who enjoys craft brews.

Just because it has the word "Irish" in it doesn't mean we didn't think of it and brew it here, and to be honest I can hardly pronounce some of those things, much less ever having heard of them.

It's almost noon! Or, I'm in Houston now, so I figure that's like East Coast time.....so it's really 12:30. I'll have a beer with lunch indeed!

I've seen that before. It seems to me to be a contract brew, not a micro. Is it good?
Th eonly time I've had moose drool was in a bar a dozen years ago in Whitefish, MT on a solo Mt. biking tour.

[I don't think this list accurately reflects the beer drinking attitudes of the beer drinking market in America.]
It's supposed to reflect the "best" beer according to quality, not the most popular beer by volume consumed; and why would anyone want to read a list like 1) Budweiser 2) Miller Lite 3) Coors 4) ...
I don't see why it's snobbish to recognize beers which use higher quality ingredients and are made with more care than the mega-brewery stuff. After all, I don't think anyone would be accused of being a snob if they said that McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's was nothing more than cheap, fast food, but for a GOOD meal you had to go to "x" restaurant.

[The more flavor you can get in the glass, the better I like it.]
Just how far does that go? I enjoyed a four pack of Sam Smith's Imperial Stout the other night jamming with my band. It's difficult trying to poke down more than three during a single evening because of just how thick it is and also all the alcohol. I'm waiting for my homebrewed imperial stout (with raspberries, cherries and 10% alcohol) to mature in the bottle so I can drink that.
I am a HUGE fan of Bigfoot Barlywine, though.

[In my college days, good beer was whatever brand happened to be the cheapest by the case in whatever store we ended up stumbling into.]
We ended up trying a ridiculously cheap beer ($4.75 a case including deposit for bottles) with "Huber Bock" on occasional weekends when we were REALLY low on funds, and I remember us drinking so many of them that we had to pee every five minutes, but we still couldn't catch a buzz because there was so little alcohol in it. It might as well have been just brown water.

Time for a road trip, Victoria. We'll bring the pretzels.

I liked it...for an IPA. I'm guessing it was a smaller establishment at one time that Portland Brewing bought out and kept the name going
