Then you can explain exactly HOW gas prices could be lowered just to win elections.
So far at least 10 people have given you reasons why the gas prices actually ARE lower (you know, those pesky facts?).
Invite us into your conspiracy fantasy and give us your explanation of how THE BUSH/ROVE BIG OIL MACHINE has accomplished this.
We'll wait.....
Uh it was more that's all I can remember right now. Sorry.
Bush, as with other things like WMD, has inexplicably passed up a teaching moment to explain how the Futures Traders around the world are contributing to the pricing volatility.
If you drive over to your panhandle or in NW Texas panhandle, you will be shocked at how many new wells were put into production based on these $70/bbl targets that made drilling those wells make economic sense. $3 gas bad for Joe 6pak? $70/bbl oil good for American energy independence.
The alternative to this dynamic, changing, volatile market controlled by competing international factions and capitol would be to have a Central Committee set the prices, like how about the UN-Oil-for-World committee or OPEC or even the EPA+DOE for crying out loud.
One thing that DIDN'T happen during that spike was SHORTAGE. You didn't see any pumps say "No Gas" today or rationing day-of-the-week did you?
Yes we agree that there's a kneejerk reaction out there for the uninformed, but that's no excuse for intelligent people to get out the tar and feathers for the evil corporations that keep us all in tall cotton.
Still close to $3.00 a gallon in some places.
Thanks...that explains quite a bit.
It is clear that you don't know what you are talking about. Do you have ANY sources or were you pulling stuff out of your hat?
You made an assertion and cannot support it with facts. That's a sure formula for losing any argument (even one as simple as this one).
2.28 in Lindenwold,NJ (Camden County)
Must be a south Jersey thing. It's all within a few pennies either way of $2.50 in Bergen, Passaic and Sussex county(I got a 40 mile commute).
I'm heading to Cherry Hill tomorrow, I'll keep a running tally.
Cherry Hill will probably run you in the $2.40's. because it's Cherry Hill.
The trick around here is to go more than a mile away from any of the major highways. I live about 5 miles off of I-295. Today in that stretch of road, gas ranged from $2.41 right off the highway to $2.28 next door to my place. Gouging?
misinformation dies hard.
it takes one-tenth of a gallon of petroleum,
to make the equivalent amount of energy in ethanol.
here is the link to Argomme National lab.
look at the top-right of page two.

I'm just waiting for the Iowa Democrats to whine that Iowa's gas is the cheapest in the US and therefore we need to raise the gas tax to bring us up to the national average.
$2.25 in Houston, where we refine the stuff. The price has been dropping $0.20/week for the last few weeks. I'm waiting an extra day to get gas, in order to get a free gallon. :)
Hit $1.99!!! Tonight
Shell
Houston
17225 Crosby Fwy (90E)
There are several other stations at 2.08

We're still at $2.81 in CO, but its nice to know price drops are probably coming.
That would be funny if it was a joke!
;-)
I feel the same way...why am I happy about $2.37 gas??? Oh, well, it's better than $2.97.
2.81?
hey, you guys are bringin' up the rear! LOL
we're at 2.65 in Southern Cali!
and evvvvvverybody knows we got the most expensive gas around! ;-]
say have you got your wings yet?
We had a thread around here last night and were commenting about the billions of dollars pension funds have invested in oil futures. Someone is going to get burned!
I hear ya! It's all relative.
None of the items you mentioned are consumed in the same volume as gasoline.
