College Football - Live Thread - Week Three
ESPN.com Scoreboard ^ | Thursday September 14th to Saturday September 16th 2006

Week Three – College Football

Week Two gave everyone the earliest #1 vs. #2 showdown in modern college football history. The game, however, turned out to not really live up to the hype. This week we are treated to SEVERAL big games, some of which are in conference in the SEC, and a historically significant rivalry renews in South Bend.

As always, all rankings are from the ESPN.com Scoreboard page. I will also list any games of interest (FReepmail me if you want your team included and I will include them from here on out) and any other games listed in my Yahoo league.

GAME of the WEEK

Saturday, September 16th, 2006 – 3:30 PM on CBS

(6) LSU at (3) Auburn (-3.5)

This is going to be a fun game to watch I think. We have Auburn which has been the odds-on favorite to win the SEC this year against a very good and very fast LSU team that is looking to spoil the Auburn season AND put itself into the national spotlight. Both teams feature strong defenses, good running games and good coaching. Fewest mistakes wins this game. I’m going with the home team.

Auburn 16 – LSU 13

Thursday September 14th, 2006 (ESPN Thursday Night Game)

Maryland at (5) West Virginia (-17)

West Virginia gets one of their rivalry games out of the way early. This should be a decent test for a team that hasn’t beaten a BCS School yet.

It’s not in the pick’em league, but I’ll give a pick anyway.

WVU 42 – Maryland 13

Saturday September 16th 2006 (in ranking order)

Cincinnati at (1) Ohio State (-30)

Ohio State 45 – Cincinnati 7

(11) Michigan at (2) Notre Dame (-6)

Notre Dame 27 – Michigan 20

(19) Nebraska at (4) USC (-19)

USC 42 – Nebraska 20

(7) Florida (-3.5) at (13) Tennessee

Florida 17 – Tennessee 9

(8) Texas (-31) at Rice

Texas 55 – Rice 6

Clemson at (9) Florida State (-4.5)

FSU 24 – Clemson 16

UAB at (10) UGA (-17)

UGA 35 – UAB 10

(17) Miami at (12) Louisville (-4.5)

Miami 22 – Louisville 20****UPSET ALERT

Duke at (14) Virginia Tech (-35)

VT 45 – Duke 3

(15) Oklahoma at (18) Oregon (-4.5)

Oregon 28 – Oklahoma 20

Iowa State at (16) Iowa (-13.5)

Iowa 32 – Iowa St. 10

(24) Texas Tech (-1) at (20) TCU

Texas Tech 45 – TCU 39

Portland St. at (21) California (NL)

Cal 58 – Portland St. 10

(22) Arizona St. (-10) at Colorado

ASU 38 – Colorado 7

BYU at (23) Boston College(-7)

BC 21 – BYU 19 ****UPSET ALERT

Youngstown St. at (25) Penn State (NL)

Penn State 52 – Y’Town St 6

38-4 Straight UP
32-10 Against the Spread

Oklahoma got screwed, but they still gave up 14 points in 70 seconds and missed a FG to end the game.

Oregon shouldn't have been in the position to win the game, but Oklahoma had it's shot too and blew it.

yeah they called off the dogs in that one.

ND's defense was exposed.

Penn State, by contrast, looks really bad now.

We'll see whether OSU can get off to a quicker start against JoePa's Nittany Lions.

Think ND can beat USC when they play? Anything can happen, but I don't know. Maybe they'll bounce back even stronger.

yeah

Weis will have that offense straightened out by the USC game. You can count on it.

I'm kinda glad OSU got the stinker out of the way.

I wish they hadn't cut away for the players singing their final song before leaving the field. That was a hard-fought game.

The last three games between AU and LSU have been decided by fewer than 5 points. Given that both teams are current SEC powerhouses, I did not expect any one team to win this one easily.

Auburn won today, and as an AU alumnus/fan, I am thrilled. However, I was frightened about this game more than any other game being played this year.

However, Florida played very well today. I think the forthcoming AU-Florida matchup (10/14) will prove to be a very fascinating one indeed.

"...Auburn should be ASHAMED to accept a clearly stolen win like that."

What are you talking about? That call may have been questionable but it was a close one indeed.

Auburn has NOTHING to be "ashamed" about and this wasn't a "stolen" win.

There you go, fixed it for you to properly show what a packer he is. Feebstreet hasn't admitted how wrong he was about Miami in the first week against FSU...I'd love to hear the dork explain about what happened to their superior D now.

Kirk was all over texas prior to the OSU game and I wasnt acting like he owes the Buckeyes an apology. He calls them as he see's them and he is allowed to be wrong. God, lighten up.

Now imagine Michigan and Ohio State on November 18th playing with Michigan No.2 and Ohio State No.1.

Except they'll both have one loss by then...OSU gets theirs next week, and UM will lose 10/14. ;-)

Aint nothing that shows PSU can put up a fight against a good B10 team. No offense.

Aint nothing that shows PSU can put up a fight against a good B10 team. No offense.

Akron - 288 total yards
Notre Dame - 417 total yards (UM only put up 368 yesterday)
Youngstown State - 582 total yards

They have a very good offense between the 20 yard lines. If their young QB and receiving core begin to figure out how to score in the redzone, this team will be very competitive.

I think it's highly unlikely PSU will win next week in Columbus, but I wouldn't want to be Michigan coming into State College for an 8PM game once this team has had some time to mature.

Army played the heart out and gave A&M nearly more than they could handle.

Coach Fran might not have survived a loss.

LSU got screwed big time. SEC officials are an embarrasment.

"Actually, LSU got royally screwed. Not only on the non-call on interference, but at least two or three late hits by Auburn, out of bounds, went uncalled. All would have affected LSU drives that were moving into AU territory. Still, Russell made a horrible decision by trying to run with the ball when he should have just gotten rid of it on that last drive."

There were 2 late hit non-calls. A horrible holding call against LSU. On LSU's interception, they called interference on LSU even though it was not catchable by Auburn, and then reversed their reasoning waiving off the interference by Auburn. It's shameful to have this kind of officiating at this level of play.

What are you talking about? Every commentator that looked at it said it was a horrible call.

I wouldn't wish Jeff on Auburn. I like Auburn.

I hope they replace him before next year. Miami, UF, Virginia Tech, Alabama...

Not at all, we may very well be the weakest major division in 1-A this year, even worst than the Big East!

I am still steamin over the USC game, not that Nebraska would have won mind you but that our Offensive packages were set up to not lose big instead of opening up and give them a chance to at least put some points up.

Yeah? Read Meisel's column on ESPN and the commentary from other commentators. In fact, you might want to read the LSU head coach's interview - he doesn't blame this call for losing the game (even though you all are trying desperately). It was a close call and was reversed by the refs because they were not sure.

I know LSU fans will use the call as an excuse for their defeat in an excellent defensive slugfest. That said, don't blame one call for your loss. Auburn was the recipient of some horrible calls too (especially C Taylor's reception late in the 4th quarter).

Good luck next time we meet.
