I thought I had read somewhere that he was still pretty out of it throughout. For certain he was in 1975 when the band members ran into him at Abbey Road when they were recording "Wish You Were Here."

Been a LONG time since he rocked and rolled.
He took care of the house himself. Went to town on his own.
I think Syd Barrett's acid daze days are blown out of proportion when you see people like Brian Wilson, Roky Erickson, and Sky Saxon (all of whom are still performing). Roky went through shock treatment and chemical treatments for "insanity" that did more damage than good. Brian Wilson was fed cocaine and cheeseburgers in exchange for songs in the 1970s or 80s and may have also been done a lot more harm by his counselor.
