JESSICA ROBERTSON NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) - Authorities believe they know what killed the 20-year-old son of Anna Nicole Smith but are awaiting a toxicology report to confirm their findings and are holding open the possibility criminal charges, the Bahamas coroner said Wednesday. Coroner Linda Virgill told The Associated Press that once her office receives the toxicology report on Daniel Smith it may launch a formal inquiry and that there is a possibility criminal charges may be filed in Sunday's death.
"We do know the cause of death," Virgill said. "But we need to confirm it with a toxicology report."
...
Deepening the mystery, Virgill said there was at least one other person in the room when Smith died. She refused to elaborate.
"I can confirm that there was definitely a third person in the room at the time of death and I do know who that person is," she said. "But I am unwilling to reveal that information at this time for various reasons."

More like, "What's wrong HERE?" As in a socialist tax system that will eagerly grab huge chunks of Anna Nicole's money and redistribute it to people the government finds more deserving of it, like crack whores, career criminals, etc.
Most likely, this is an elite private hospital that has some "Presidential Suite" type rooms, where patients can have anybody they want there, at all hours. Private duty nurses. Catered meals.
Forbes is extremely sloppy with its calculations, which barely even qualify as such. If they can't get reliable information, they just guess on the high side. I once saw a client of mine listed on there at well over double a reasonable estimate of his net worth -- and virtually all the info I had was publicly available to anyone with a clue where to look (like any 22-year-old analyst at a major investment bank). They just added up the value of all his assets that they could identify, and didn't bother to subtract billions in debt secured by those assets. I'd trust a National Enquirer estimate of someone's net worth, before I'd trust Forbes.
The news headlines now are saying that Anna Nicole had to be sedated when she (and Stern) couldn't revive Daniel, so that she now has no recollection of his death and had to be reminded of it yesterday. Source: Michael Scott

Coroners Inquest Set Into Death of Celebritys Son
By Macushla Pinder
A coroners inquest into the "suspicious" death of Daniel Wayne Smith, son of former Playboy playmate and reality TV star, Anna Nicole Smith, has been set for October 23 and is expected to last one week, but longer if necessary, according to Coroner Linda Virgill.
The coroner said that once the inquest is complete, "should it become necessary," the matter would be referred to the Supreme Court for criminal charges.
Smith died mysteriously while visiting his mother and newborn baby sister at Doctors Hospital on Sunday.
Sources said just over 20 witnesses will be called during the inquest.
Coroner Virgill has confirmed that witnesses will include Ms. Smith, the medical teams at Doctors Hospital and the Princess Margaret Hospital Rand Lab, police officers involved in investigating the death, as well as persons who may have had contact with Smith prior to his visiting the hospital.
As is the case with all "suspicious deaths," an inquest is held to legally determine how, when, where and by what manner a person would have met his or her death.
There has been intense media scrutiny surrounding the young mans unexpected death that came three days after his mother had given birth to the baby girl.
Officials at Doctors Hospital said on Tuesday they performed resuscitative efforts on Smith after observing that he had been unresponsive.
Police have said that there were no visible signs of injury on Smiths body or any signs of violence.
Coroner Virgill reiterated that conclusion as she and Bahamian attorney, Michael Scott, who will be representing Ms. Smith and her sons estate during the inquest, fielded questions from local and foreign reporters on the matter.
Mrs. Virgill said she opted to answer queries on the issue in response to the telephone calls that were being made to her office.
She told reporters that she had secured the results of the autopsy report and that Smiths cause of death was known. She also said she was awaiting a toxicology report, which should be completed by midday Thursday.
"I will then be in a position to review, but that result will not be made public simply because we will be having the inquiry," Mrs. Virgill said
"
This is a matter that will be held with a jury and the jury at the end of the day must make their findings. And so if I am premature and I give you cause of death, we could tamper with the jury pool. That would not be legal at the end of the day nor would it be right. We must protect interested persons and parties."
Mrs. Virgill further revealed that Smiths body had not yet been released to his family.
"It will not he released [by me] until I have been in receipt of the toxicology report and then a determination would be made at the end of the day whether or not I will release his body within this week," she said
"
Once you have the toxicology reports, there is no need to hold the physical remains simply because we would have the organs and the contents if we need to examine or exhume
Once the body is released, it will be sent overseas."
The coroner also clarified a statement attributed to her in an international report that claimed that at least one other person was in the room when Smith died.
According to Mrs. Virgill, this was something she could not confirm save only to say that based on the police report, "there may have been other persons or person in the room."
"A jury will determine whether in fact there was a third person in the room or persons," she said.
But while Mrs. Virgill also revealed she has spoken to Ms. Smith since the tragedy, she remained guarded about what information was released to the press.
"One thing I would say, in each and every occasion, our medical staff is highly trained. They are very well versed in the laws and they know that if something happened of an adverse nature that would warrant the police to that room, they would have secured that room and upon the police entering, it would also have been secured," she said.
"And so anything that may have been of evidential nature clearly, I am satisfied that it would have been secured. I have every confidence in that and if it hasnt been or wasnt done, again the jury would determine this at the end of the day."
Mr. Scott also used the opportunity to dismiss what he called "fanciful claims" that he said were made by a local journalist on Larry King Live on CNN Tuesday night. It was claimed that anti-depressants might have been involved in Smiths sudden death.
"Ive not heard that. To my knowledge that certainly has not emerged from any inquiry, investigation or evidence laid before the authorities and I think its sheer irresponsible speculation," he said.
The attorney also confirmed that up to Wednesday, Ms Smith was still in The Bahamas, living in seclusion with her family and friends "as expected."
Meantime, a police investigation continued into the matter.
Howard left the room to go and get "food" that day. Now, (this is a stretch) suppose the boy was highly allergic to a certain food, that Howard brought back?
My oldest son is so allergic to the Brazil Nut, that even the oil of it that has been in contact with other "mixed nuts" can cause him to go into a sudden reaction that could kill him. We've been there twice..and the allergic reaction is 'instant'.
Suppose Daniel ate something he shouldn't have, and his lungs closed off?

You are correct. Upon his death in June, it was reported that his family would continue the legal battle against ANS.
I'm beginning to think that he may have taken drugs himself ... without his mother's asssitance. Or even without her knowledge. And overdosed.
The silence and evasiveness around this event though makes it look like possibly more. For PR sake she should just issue a statement and hopefully it will blow over.
Time will tell.
Knocker smothering?
According to Websleuths ... Fox News saying that Daniel was known to take crystal meth.
Sad, if true.
Anna has been pretty much out of her mind even before her son died. This is going to finish her off.

And now she's going to raise another child?? I hope SOMEBODY has the brains to take that baby away and put it with loving, responsible parents.
I think you're right. Especially if Hannah's natural father files for custody and wins (which he probably would).

Anna Nicole 'memory loss' over son's sudden death...

Thanks , I'm reading it now...
I don't know how loving or responsbile the photog/alleged father Birkhead is, but his lawyer chimed in yesterday that he (Birkhead) will be seeking custody.
Oh, good - YW!
I think that Daniel stood in the way of Howard K Stern getting all of Annas hard earned money, and I think Stern helped him to leave this world. Stern is full of antics.
