I've never had a single crash ever running Windows XP on my two computers at home.

Maybe its you.

The company I work for is still primarily a Windows 2000 shop. One of the simplest reasons is that the licensing changed between Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP. Win2K came with a Terminal Services client license, whereas with XP you need to buy one. So, if my company were to upgrade their workstations from Win2K to WinXP, they'd have to buy both an upgrade license for XP AND a TS client. That would be rough for a place with about 2400 workstations, and 120 Windows 2000 TS servers.

I have a firewire on my router, Linksys. Besides that its just the built in security stuff included with Windows. I've never had a penetration.

I think when you install different software for this and that and whatever, it is that, which causes dysfunction.

"Maybe its (sic) you"

Nope. Ruled that out. I didn't install any software that wasn't already tested to work on the images. These images were put together by the IT and CS gurus on campus.

And a lot of people had problems with Windows going down. The only difference between me and them was that I became fed up with it--to the point where I switched operating systems.

Not to mention that virtually everyone I know has had at least one major Windows crash. My mom's been lucky; though I had to nuke and reinstall Windows the week before.

And a couple of my relatives actually just went out and bought Macs. Windows kept crashing on their systems (never did figure out why)--irritated 'em so much they swore never to buy another pee-cee.

Finally with Windows, I can't rule out failure of the OS whereas with Linux and Mac, most problems are in fact user error.

Oh, come on. Editing text files is not rocket-science. Compiling a program is a four-step process.

Yeah, it's not some wizzy Wizard that does everything for ya... and all you need to know is which mouse button is which.

You need to be able to READ and follow directions... you need to know your way around a KEYBOARD.

Yeah, I'm thinking Squid-Cache was a little too much for you to chew on. ;-) That's fine. Have fun with your Windows toys.

I'm sure you'll get real far in life with your arrogance. Good luck with that.

Thanks for the heads up...

Will probably have to run it in either qemu or VMware (only have 256 RAM on my system, so I can't actually install it)...

Definitely worth a look 8^)
