I have found in all my writings that when things are not resolved or not worked out, it's because I don't have the catalyst, which usually comes during the writing process. A character says or does something and it sparks my imagination and the story, while on the same track, gets new scenery. I also like the new scenery better than what I planned. So, as you write, your characters will tell you how it should be resolved.
How? I don't know. As Phillip Henslow is fond of reminding us. "It's a mystery."
