We missed. It was too late by the time we got out the door so we did our errands instead. We'll make the 6:00.
Murder in the first person is always fun.
I'll shortly be announcing the newest phase of the Hobbit Hole, "gadgets and safety giveaway". For safety purposes, we will continue to give away the Grimloc safety carabiner. It's light, handy, inexpensive in the quantities we give away (699 to date, with 200+ on hand), and most troops have never heard about it. I can send two in a padded envelope with 3 ounces of first class postage.
The other part of the program will be the evaluation of safety and "convenience" devices. The first reviews will be of various upgrades for the kevlar helmet that significantly increase impact protection, and therefore ballistic protection. Some brands are winners, and at least one is a total loser that could get you killed, thinking you were protected.
I'm also anxiously awaiting my next "gadget", a SureFire light system that clamps to the side of the helmet. It provides the choice of two high-intensity white LEDs, two subdued blue LEDs for use with NVGs, and an infrared strobe for IFF purposes.
I might also have some business cards with our logo on it to help troops remember where the weird gear came from.
