I just got a real nice letter from Mr. Higgins.
Here in Missouri we get so many ice storms that most people with pickups put something heavy in the back, bags of sand, firewood, etc. I have about 12 -14 bags of mulch in the back of OB's pickup; it rides much better and I have mulch first thing in the spring when I want it! LSA
What an undertaking, 2J!! It looks great. LSA
I would submit that the damage done to all cars with salt is orders of magnitude greater than the damage of fenderbenders in places that do not use salt.
Sand works pretty well. Thats what they'll use here, along with some de-icer on hills. I think it's a good thing. I'm really glad they don't salt.
We're gaining confidence. It seemed overwhelming for so long, but things that we thought were out of reach are already behind us now!
And I can check FR at lunch. This job r0x0rs.
Fantastic!!!
:-)
There wasn't even sand out there this morning. :-\
Yah... no sand around in Bellevue either. Didn't even see a single sand truck.
I seem to remember that they were better at it in years past. Yesterday it started snowing in the afternoon, and they had all night to get the trucks out for this morning's traffic. Used to be that the trucks were out sanding in the wee hours even if they *thought* it might freeze the next morning.
Not sure what's up with that.
Sounds good!
Typically they used more sand than salt back home, really. Partly because salt doesn't work below a certain temperature. Then come spring the bigger roads would get swept, since the sand would dry out and get slick.
And yeah, I'm suprised they didn't get trucks out earlier. The roads were starting to get bad last night - they could have gotten a head start.
Looks like they'll get a few more chances to prove themselves this week. Lots of "wintry mix" in the forecast. Wintry mix sounds so cheery...too bad it ain't.
I was kinda glad I had thenewdryer in the back of the van in the wind yesterday. Mebbe I should just huck the old one in there and leave it until spring. ;-)
I was thinking 'bags of topsoil', but if the dryer won't obstruct your rearview mirror too much, that would work!! LSA
Suddenly realizing I'm within 5-10k of actually finishing this story entirely. It will need at least one full rewrite since the characters have changed so much since I first envisioned them, but still.
It almost makes me sad.
Heh...I'm just joking. But it does make a pretty good anchor.
Yah. And this is earlier than we typically get snow down this low. January's our time. Makes one wonder if those predictions of a "milder than normal" winter were possibly just a little bit... off.
I need to write... I need to exercise... I don't have time this evening and I haven't even left work yet! Argh!
And the technical docs I'm reading are giving me a headache. Hopefully I can get some code soon.
Hey, have y'all heard from Hair since this morning? Last I heard she didn't have any water and had gone out for breakfast and in search of a working toilet. Wells are nice but they do have their drawbacks. ;o)
