The Hobbit Hole XXXI - Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

No that's silly. Polar bear poop would be full of penguins. :~)

I think we've got a spot for at least one of them in the yard, and I'd like them in the yard. We might even pick more of them and not just let them rot.

This is one of them, think it's too big to move? I figure we'll cut it back to two or three main branches and give it a tug with the truck and see what happens. I don't care where it goes, but it can't stay there. I've got that temp fence up to keep the horses out when we had them in there, but I don't trust those two strands of electric tape when the temptation is that strong. That many apples would make them really really sick.

The other one is in this clump with a bunch of other scrubby stuff, it looks like more tree because it's mingled with all that other stuff, but it's really about the same size as the first one. It's still loaded with apples.

They're kindof small scabby apples, but they'd be good horse treats if they were easy to get to, and they'd be good for baking if I knew anyone who did that. And the birds and squirrels might like the rest, of course :~)

Cut them back as much as you can, then dig around the root ball to loosen it. You may be able to drag it out. Were you going to attach it to the trailer hitch? That might work. I guess you don't know anyone with a mini-backhoe you could borrow, huh?

No - wish we did... I'd be sucking up to that person a lot... we could use a mini backhoe for a few jobs around here :~)

Hey, could you offer pony rides on craiglist in exchange for backhoe work? Might be some guy with a backhoe has some kids who have been dying to ride a pony!

We found Gimli on eBay.

Well, but with our pony, it'd only be a good trade if he didn't like his kids very much :~)

The horses would be OK though :~)

Well, that looks like a lot of work... I'm thinking 'hook a chain around it and pull it out with the truck, and see what happens' :~)

Most likely results: you'll crack or bend the frame of your truck.

If you must try it, use a tow strap rather than a chain. It will take out some of the shock.

Think so? I'm thinking we'd connect it to the ball, which is on a heavy duty tow package, not just on the bumper... I think we'll spin before we'll bend it. I know dad's pulled out pretty big Juniper that way.

Evening Hair, well, looks like Racoon poop to me, but that is usually smaller diameter, those scats look 'hugh' on the screen.

DING! DING! DING! You win the prize! I don't know how big it is on your screen, but it's about the size of a large dog poo. Homer poo size. Raccoon, but a big one, or one that had a HUGH... err... meal. ;~)

Example here :~)

I really thought it was bear poop. I associate berries in poop like that with bears. It stopped me in my tracks and that's why I picked it up. It looks exactly like the bear poop we've seen on trail, except not quite enough quantity. The only thing that kept me from believing we really had a bear was that there is no way a bear could have gotten in there without taking out the fence. It was ~inside~ the fence which is mesh field fence with four strands of wire above it. A bear could get in easy, but he'd leave the fence in ruins doing it.

I didn't really want to come back from Chili's with a tummy full of buffalo wings to read a discussion of raccoon poo.

However, I could mention that one of those I was at Chili's with would be inclined to poke the poo with a stick, and giggle.

I was thinking bear, too, but I couldn't see how it could have gotten through the fence!

Didn't even think of raccoon, but that makes sense. Still pretty big...

Just goes to show there are still *thousands* of topics still left to discuss in the Hobbit Hole...

You *picked* *it* *up*?? Eww...

OK, now you're reminding me of an old Cheech & Chong skit.

Yeah, like I said in the SC too... raccoon didn't occur to me either. I haven't seen any raccoons, but I know they're around, and I guess they'd eat blackberries, which are ripe right now. I don't know if I thought they'd bury it like a cat or what, but I've never known raccoons by their droppings or given any thought about what it might look like. Deer, rabbit and coyote poo, I've seen back there, but nothing with berries in it. I associate that with bears, and it really set me back wondering what to do if I had a bear around. We had one a few years ago just a mile from here that was repeatedly spotted along the freeway at 93rd, eating berries like the cars weren't even there. I was concerned enough about him then that I stopped leaving garbage outside... for awhile. We've got a can outside now again, but back then, I saved it up till I had six cans then went to the dump.
