Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
|
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

But what is not being asked is how much more modernization could have happened if the Army was fully funded. I'm not comfortable discussing the particulars in the open forum but vital programs - essential to modernization - keep getting chopped by Congress. Thus has it ever been. Not Rumsfeld's fault, nor Bush's either.

The SecDef sets the agenda. There is a reason most of the senior officers who have been speaking out about him have been Army. His vision of a modern force overvalues air power. The buck stopped with him. Literally. The Army and Marines have had to make do with crumbs from the table, having to shuffle $$ away from acquisition in order to fund the fight. The AF hasn't had to make such sacrifices. Rummy is a great man who has done a lot of good. But he's not perfect.

I love mag lites. Love them love them love them. Eggspecially mini mags. They're perfect for backpacking. Are there LED conversion kits for mini's?Again, Nite Ize to the rescue. An LED conversion kit, and a "smart" tail cap that gives you different levels of brightness, and two strobe functions. Be warned, these will probably cost you more than the original Mini Maglite, but they are well worth it.

Rummy is a great man who has done a lot of good. But he's not perfect.Despite Rummy's faults, he still stands head-and-shoulders taller than Robert Strange McNamara, or the non-entities that served as SecDef for the Commander-in-Sleaze.

Agreed. It will take six or seven years still to overcome the Clinton-era gutting of the military.

Sweeeet. Those will eat fewer batteries, yes? It's a niiiiiice. I a liiiike.Expect a 10x increase in battery life, and near-infinite lamp life. Also, you ain't seen white until you've seen white LEDs. It makes halogen bulbs look yellow.

She really is a beautiful monster, isn't she? That's an especially good picture - hard to capture her on film!

Writing cramp...as in mental, or are you writing by hand, partially?
I'm mostly writing then typing.
Had a lunch meeting today, though, so I haven't gotten much in yet. Granted, I'm ahead, but I'm also fretting over the story and it's been painful, painful writing lately. If I ever go back and edit, I think much of the text from the last few days will be yanked and replaced with a summary.

It is a good pic! Ecurbh took it, actually, I was trying to fold t-shirts :~)
To photograph her, we just can't use the flash, she either gets all washed out or gets red eye, or both.
