Yawn... well I just made my poor husband get up with the dogs. And slept way in.
It was insane. Hundreds of kids and their parents just let them swarm out into the street and grab candy from our wagon. Unbelievable. It was a true mob mentality and awesome to behold in a way...at one point I shrieked at Matthew "RUN!"
And because you had to put the candy in the bucket of each child, if you missed one, the parent would scream at you!!! We were running, so we missed a lot and got screamed at a lot. I felt really bad for the boys...
I saw a side of my boys though that I have never seen before...a "get 'er done" attitude that didn't wane the entire parade route.
I told them next year, we'll have my Beetle running and I'll drive it and they can just sit in the back seat, eat great handfuls of candy and stare at the crowd! LOL!
Just don't go to town, man :~)
Man!! No kidding!
Heh heh!!
And the thing is, Hair...I don't even feel like I'm adequately describing how bad it was.
Another thing...there were other folks with the club there...some were driving and had lots of passengers that coulda helped us. But no way were they getting out of their cars. They knew how it would be! Do I blame them? No, because NEXT year, there is no way I'm getting out of my car!
Oh, there's a beer joint down there on that drag...Becky would maybe know it, it's for bikers. Been there since before the area got "trendy". I tell ya, had I not had the jedis with me, I woulda abandoned that wagonful of candy to rabble and gone in and had a beer!
I handed out school supplies as part of a fall event we had when I worked in "the projects". We had advertised 'free school supplies': a goodie bag of notepaper, pee chees, pencils, erasers, that kind of stuff. It was supposed to be kids in the line, but we got MOBBED. The kids were OK, but the pushy parents, I wanted to whack on the head.
Mobs have the potential of being an extremely dangerous dynamic. For example...these kids were mobbing us with moving cars and floats all around, they were totally oblivious to them. Thankfully no one got killed, as happened here in the town I actually live in. A teacher got run over by a float, right in front of everybody and died.
It was the parents though...they had no control over the kids. They just let them run amok. And they'd scream at us. I'm just unaccustomed to adults screaming at me angrily...
I don't think you're supposed to get accustomed to that :~)
I think they figure this is safe candy from strangers, because the parade participants have to register and all that.
I might do a parade again someday, but only if my jedis can throw the candy from the car. The bad thing about this one was the inability to throw the candy...there was no buffer zone between you and an apparently candy-deprived mass of humanity! LOL!
Honestly...I told the jedis that next year they can eat candy in the Bug during this parade, which will mean more when the time comes and they realize that normally they don't ever get to eat or drink in the Bug.
Even then, I'll probably cover everything back there with a sheet while they're eating! LOL!!
Steve's doing a pollution collection event. That's why I get to be online.
I still don't have my voice back, but I feel relatively good. I'm going grocery shopping and then will open up the shop when it gets a bit warmer.
So when Steve gets home in the early afternoon, we can work.
A friend of mine lent, lended, let me borrow a Sawsall.
:-)
Careful with that sawsall dear, you can cut something with that :~)
Pop one upside the head with a jawbreaker. So what if you're not supposed to throw the candy. What are they going to do? Fire you?
Mmmmm.....the crunchy goodness of coffee in a chocolate wrapper...
Mmmmm...
I should have dropped them on wax paper, though. I put maybe a tablespoon of whole coffee beans in a buttered 2-inch dessert dish and poured the mix (1:1 unsweetened: bittersweet) over them, mixed, and put it in the fridge for the chocolate to harden. I kinda had to chisel it out of the dish.
Tasted good, although it will melt in your hand. :)
That doesn't look all that comfortable...
But I guess with that much hair...she doesn't need much cushioning!
It doesn't look comfortable at all... it looks as comfortable as sleeping on a pile of... well... ~shoes~ :~)
