Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Mmmm...coffee...

Well, maybe all the zinc and Vitamin C and stuff I've been taking has finally kicked in. I still feel like I'm getting a slight cold, but I don't feel like I got hit by a bus. Which is all good.

On the other hand, it means I gotta go to work. ;-)

Well, I woke up with a sore throat in the night, but I took some Tylonol and a glass of water and went back to bed and it's better. It still might be in my head, I can't read about people that are sick. ;~)

You think you're gonna catch cold and not be well to feed horses in the cold mornings? Think about it and how you feel today and let us know if you don't want us to go.

Then you shouldn't read my posts. I've got a major case of acid reflux that's lingered for ~days~.

But I know it's stress related. (and yes, I DID have an EKG recently, why do you ask?)

Eh...doesn't take much effort to walk over and feed horses. And so far it's just feeling like I might get a stuffy nose. I can live with that.

Yeah, I know. I've been here before. And I did have a ~complete~ physical a couple of weeks ago. This is reflux.

Reflux still scares me, though. It's not as serious or as potentially quickly deadly as a heart problem, but it's still not good.

As I understand, it may have been part of what triggered the cancer that killed Mom. Granted, she always put off seeing a doctor and never got it treated. And I don't fully understand how the reflux and the cancer were related.

But I always wonder "what if". Guess I always will.

Ah, I understand. In a related, but not really note, my cancer triggered a skin allergy. I still take a mild dosage of a prescription for that after 16 years.

If this goes on much past the weekend, I'll get it checked out. But, if you recall, I posted Monday a.m. about the whole stress level thing. I've been down this road before. And even been to the ER because of it.

She had esophageal cancer that probably started in the scar tissue from the reflux...so it was a bit more direct than that. I know it's nothing nearly like that for you...I'm just sayin' it doesn't hurt to take the medication for it if *does* go on.

But hopefully the stress drops off and it's no longer an issue. ;-)

On that happy note...I'd better get the work day started here. Least it's Friday!

Just being a tad non-compliant. Giving me grief about 1. Getting out of bed. 2. Doing the required assignment.

Actually, only one was giving me grief, but my lecture was so intense that the other one shaped up too. Ha!

Today went very well, despite the fact that Joshua woke up with a 101 degree temp and a stomach ache. Amazing what a little advil and mylanta can do! Ha ha! He's done and playing on the xbox as I type. He *is* taking it easy today, though.

Matthew is finishing up a math quiz behind me...we're out in the shop.

That graphic sums up my week entirely.

Today I learned a new law of the universe: it is impossible for anyone else to do work if I am working.

For the third flipping time this year my project has been 'postponed' because one other person believes she cannot possibly do any work if I am also working. It's zero-sum. Either she works. Or I work. But not simultaneously. Now mind you, the "work" I'm talking about is processing in a big supercomputer that has lots of processors. I use a few. She uses a few. Other folks use a few. It'a kum-bah-ya. Oh no. She was accusing my processes of killing her processes, which is odd because all of mine were mysteriously terminated - something she takes great joy in. This was followed by a major temper tantrum (and really - at her age it's just embarassing) complete with whining about how anyone can expect her to get anything done if you-know-who (me) is using the processors. HUH?? And her work is just sooooooooooooo much more important than anything I could possibly be working on. I beg to differ of course.

Anyhoo, management is always sympathetic to these outbursts and cancels my work at every opportunity. One manager-type even said, "Gee, we should get Lil' a card for all the times we've postponed her work. Ha. Ha." Yes, my management is that mature. They ordered me - get this - to not do any work until Monday. I was planning to set stuff to run all weekend and run all next week while I'm in NM. But no. Oh well. Your tax money at work.

The only funny part is how blasted upset she gets because *every* time she "tries" to do work she can't because I'm doing work. What this really means is that I'm always working. It drives her nuts.

That's just plain wrong. Seems like you need to work somewhere that appreciate you.

That's what I've been thinking. The most important part is that my customers like my product - mostly because I bother to listen to what they really want instead of foisting the same ol' same ol' on 'em. I'm busy innovating and pushing the envelope while Ms. Incompatibility struggles to do the same ol' same ol' products. So we're both working on our reputations. I just plan on doing something more with my career. Heh.
