Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ookay. That's an odd looking critter. Has fuzzy things instead of actual wings?

I wrote it in a little notebook. Words feel different when you write them by hand vs. typing them.

Mmm...notebook.

I know I've babbled about it here before, but I *love* pens and paper. I have wayyyy too many extra blank books around that I just couldn't pass up. And while I don't really do a lot of longhand writing, I *do* brainstorm on paper. I have notebooks with pages of speculation on characters and questions that need answering and plot holes that need filling and just mindless theorizing on where to go next.

Good way to work out of a hole.

I think they're fuzzy wings.

It was my task today to focus on one of my characters that didn't have an arc yet. Now he does. He starts out as a bit of a pansey (Mom won't let him get dirty) who learns to be rugged and more independant. He's going to have some series quirks.

If it didn't hit too badly down here, I'd think there'd be more fer us, salmonly speaking. If'n Seattle and Tacoma folks were gone.

So there's that.

It depends on the kid and the culture. Can you tell me more about him?

Speaking of fish.

Luke now has a beta and three tetras. Please pray.

We got the beta last Sunday and added the tetras today. So far, so good.

For some reason, he named the beta "Jordan."

Betas are pretty easy keepers really. Good luck to Jordan and friends :~)

Typical suburban slacker. Probably very bright, but would rather be popular and have lots of friends than be a big geek. So he's a follower. Wants to say the hip things to make him look hip. He's a bit of a comic or a clown. It's how he deals with embarassment. He's never had to work for anything. He's in Scouts because that's where his friends are not because he's all that committed to the movement.

Urp.

Well, my adventurousness with food may have gotten a little out of hand this last trip. We went out in El Paso to a great little Mex place where you had to ask for the waitress that speaks Ingles. We were definately the only folks speaking English. There were several big family parties going on. The Mariachi band cracked me up. "Seven Dollars. One song, ok? Do you want Ciolito Lindo?" What I really wanted was the Texas Tornados' "Hey Baby, Que Pa So" Heh heh. If I remembered more of my Spanish, I would have talked him down to maybe 3 songs for seven dollars. Heh.

Anyway. One of the guys sez, "I'm going to order an appetizer! It's a surprise!" So he surprised us with Tripas. They were ... ok. They would have been better if maybe they tasted better. Tripas were a little pile of brown, fried tubes that you piled in a little tortilla with lime and guacamole. So, little brown tubes... yes they were deep fried beef intestines. So this morning I wanted to read a little more about them and found this. Seems tripas are more-or-less banned for mad cow concerns. And I guarantee that those particular tripas were brought up from Mexico and not from Australia where there's been no mad cow. Great. heh.

You have just affirmed my non-adventurousness with food. Thank you.

Morning!

Got laundry going....need more coffee...

Looks like the skeeters will finally be kilt later on this week. Guess I should harvest the last of the peppers and dig up the basil. Need to kill the thrips.
