A couple of weeks ago I posted some Merapi eruption photos (actually, it think it was Mayon; I did find some earlier pictures of pyroclastic flows on Merapi). I noted how difficult it was to find good pictures of the recent activity (still true; most of the photos weren't that great). Well... I found some good great ones. A couple are below; go to the link for the full set.
TOPICS: Arts/Photography; Education; Outdoors; Science; Travel
KEYWORDS: eruption; glowing; incandescent; indonesia; merapi; pyroclastic; rockfall; volcano
IN other volcano news, both Etna and Piton de la Fournaise commenced some activity on August 31. Fournaise has had a few short eruptions over the past few months; this is the first summit activity for Etna in a few years, though there have been notable flank eruptions. Montserrat also got more active on August 31 and there was a dome collapse a few days later.
There used to be Webcam coverage of the Etna summit; I'll have to check to see if there still is.

The pics seem to be long exposure pics (notice the star trails). They came out nice.
