"...but that 64% felt it was important not to pass judgment on the eating habits of other cultures."
Why not?
"I was so ashamed of the fact that I didn't know about horse slaughter," Madeleine Pickens said.
Where has she been?
"Hey, waiter! This steak still has marks from where the jockey was beatin' it!"
We eat cows - some countries & peoples do NOT.
Some eat monkey (they are tasty) generally, Americans do not.
Rats, mice, cats, dogs, etc are all eaten in most parts of the world - the USA is snobbish about what it considers as edible.
So yes, it is only a cultural preference...
The residents of Flushing, NY will probably call this just another example of American racism.
Why not?
I agree, we pass judgment on the cultures of others all the time :~) The benefit of being a fairly soft, wealthy country, is we don't ~have~ to do distastful things just to survive.
Poll reveals that most Americans would prefer Heaven on Earth, but are unwilling to make the necessary sacrifices.
Horse slaughtered for human consumption in the US is general for export to Europe (primarily to Britain to a lesser extent France).
Horse meat is sweeter and leaner than beef.
Having spent considerable time on farms in my youth I will not pass judgement on anyone eating any animal.
But I will say this in order of stupidest mammals that we eat I will put the cow as first then the horse then the pig.
So if you want to say people should not eat horses because they are smarter than cows you better stop eating your morning bacon first.

Many aren't against Horses' asses though. Look at the number of RATS in the Congress.
Well the Hindu's don't eat cows, but you don't see them telling us not to eat Steak.
50% of Americans live in Blue states and 71% believe meat comes from the grocery store. Most believe in UFOs and abortion. Doesn't make them right.
I don't see the difference in eating cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, dove, quail, deer, giant kudu, or horses.
Apparently for any consumption. My old dog was able to have horse meat. Twenty years later my new dog doesn't get the same luxury.
