I wonder if the cat is/was rabid?

I had a kitty who, when taken to the vet, would act just like that. As meek as she could be at home, but once out of her environment she would freak.

I had another who had to be sedated just to be examined. I hear those "cats from hell", as we call them, at the vet's all the time.

I doubt that kitty had rabies. But what really irks me about it is the people videotaping, who are aggravating the poor thing.

He has a collar, which means he is someone's pet. I bet he is terrified and just needs to be left alone in a dark room for a while.

More than likely it is feral. Not a big deal as it can be tamed fairly easy. It will not last long at a shelter though.

I dropped off a feral kitten at a local shelter once. Changed my mind a couple hours later and went back to reclaim it. To late as they had already put it to sleep. So much for compassion and a 2 week stay to live. Ticked me off, F'im, cold day in h**l before I take another one there.

We adopted a Maine coon cat that was mostly wild. He had crawled up onto an engine block to get warm and got his tail caught in the serpentine belt and it had to be amputated. It took a couple of months to tame him, though he is still skittish and will not let you pick him up but he's grown to be a very sweet and affectionate cat.

When a healthy animal ends up being put to sleep, some human failed them somewhere down the line.

So, if an animal is captured, locked in a cage with all sorts of strange noise, is petrified and reacts by being defensive while people are harassing it, it should be put to sleep? Even though it hurt no one?

No, I am not.

What did that kitty do to deserve to be killed, in your opinion?

Hiss? Growl? Should he be killed because he looked mean?

Come on.

If people had their pets spayed or neutered it would go a long way toward elimination the 15 million or so dogs and cats that are euthanized each year. Some of them need to be euthanized (rabies, illness, etc) but the majority need not be put down. It's a terrible shame.
