A fair amount of horses have to be destroyed because they are violent, and injure or kill other animals. These creatures have to be put down - like a pit bull that can kill instantly with one great kick.
There are horses with injuries and congenital defects to expensive to treat. these are going to be put down.
Horses are expensive and slaughter recoups some of the loss a breeder or rancher has on a bad horse.
So this knee jerk reaction by people who have never lived around horses will result in Fewer, not more horses in the United States, because the price of raising them has been raised, with no increase in reward.
Maybe Freepers should read what ranchers and horse breeders say too - not just go along with the PITA crowd.
