Yeah, I had a few longer stints in the 1990's of being laid off too and I just temped and did what I had to do survive. I admit I had very short notice when I got my current job and I hated to just "drop and leave" but that is the nature of today from time to time and I have to think of myself and my family and what's best for them, well, my current job meant a lot more money so I had to jump ship and take it. I work in the accounts payable in the ground division of a major shipping company. I'm glad too with all the health bills my cats have had although it is kind of crunching me but it is a cross I'm glad to bear for them.

Wow. I didn't know there were so many treatments out there for sick cats. I hear they can be pretty expensive. My landlord's been taking Jerry to the vet about twice a month for digestive reasons. He's not even 10. (I live vicariously though other car owners cause hubby is allergic to cats and we can't have any.)

Well, I know from what one et said, the cortisone treatment is frown upon by most of the medical community because they want to get in, take a biopsy of the tumor and then go to chemo, surgery and/or radiation as the case my be. In cases like lympho-sarcoma, the cortisone does shrink the tumors down to the point to where if they were biospied, they cannot tell of they are benign or malignant. I do believe you do need to keep up the injections though, but the vet said that he had a dog with a brain tumor that was causing him seizures and was generally on his way out to where he started the treatment and the dog lived for an extra 2 or 3 years, sometimes you can get 5 or more. Still it is a bit touch and go, but at least there is hope there but unfortunately too late for Pansy.

Oh yah, one thing I forgot to mention (in terms of spooky stuff) about 6 months ago, our television started turning itself on in the middle of the night. (I'm pinging Jack, cause maybe he can explain this.) In order to correct the problem, we've plugged the TV into a sock controlled by a switch to cut the power completely. This seems to work. (If it didn't, then I'd be REALLY freaked.) Anyway, if we go to bed and forget to turn the switch off, the TV comes on about 2-3 hours later. Never ever fails now. It is the weirdest/spookiest thing I've ever seen. When I’m in bed and it's 3am and I hear voices and talking coming from the next room, it really makes me jump!!! Haven’t grabbed the pistol yet to shoot the TV.

I'm sure Jack (RCA2000) has answered this already, but I generally don't read ahead so I can answer without prejudice. Is the TV remote controlled? Depending on the method use, infrared is the most common now but there have been models that used ultrasound and radio waves I think so perhaps you could be picking up a stray infrared or other signal there although I don't think that is much of a problem as it used to be with IR but I need to bring that up while brainstorming.

Maybe the board inside that controls the power to the set is acting funny, maybe something could be going there although in most cases the set would shut off instead. Every once in a great while, my 1982 Zenith does this but we just turn her off and on and she is good as new for several months.

Not get "Art Bell" on you here but maybe you might have a ghost. B-) Not to be a smart alec or anything but one cannot discount the weird and paranormal. Me, I would have to say it could be number 2, something with the board that controls the power in your TV.

My thing with mimes isn't scariness so much as it is downright hatred. I just don't like them at all.

When I was a kid, we were at the mall and some mime got a glimpse of me. And started waving at me with a big stupid grin, and I would kind of wave and shyly start to hide. (We were sitting down, and the mime was on the other side of the food court).

But I would hide behind dad, and that mime would get to an angle where it could see me, and wave, and that stupid grin...and waving! And I kept trying to hide...but the mime kept finding me!

I've hated them ever since.

I'm not fond of most clowns because of a similar reason. I was about 4 or 5, my parents took me to te "Good Ship Lollipop," a part of the Gateway Clipper fleet here in Pittsburgh. This clown was passing out lollipops to the kids, he kept jagging around with me, everytime I reached for it, he pulled it away, did this several times. Ever since then, most clowns, with few exceptions, are on my crap list.

Thanks for the link. That thread is "interesting" in a Darwin Award kind of way. I'm officially supposed to be on a list of people to call in this parish for nuisance snake problems, but I wouldn't try to catch the snake by setting the car on fire. A snake's instinct is to hide from danger rather than trying to run from it. If the snake had a hiding place in the engine, all of the commotion would only make it less likely to come out. It likely stayed in the engine until overheating and dying. If they knew roughly where the snake was hiding, they would have done better putting ice around that area. The snake might have sought a warmer hiding place, and they could have caught him when he moved.

READ: Colossians 3:22-25

Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. —Colossians 3:23 Most Christians are not engaged in professional ministry. They don’t preach or sing or work for an evangelistic agency. Their time between Sundays is spent doing jobs that don’t seem to have value for the spread of the gospel. Therefore, some believers may view themselves as second-class disciples.

That may have been the way some members of the church in Colosse regarded themselves. Paul addressed an erroneous viewpoint of secular work when he wrote, “Obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, . . . in sincerity of heart, fearing God” (Col. 3:22).

You see, if God’s purposes in this world are to be fulfilled, we need a structured society with all its indispensable activities. The people we work for are servants of the Lord Jesus Christ. Whether they know it or not, our employers are carrying out God’s good purposes. As long as the assigned task is not sinful or unethical, when we serve those who rule over us we are serving the Lord.

So let’s view our daily work—whatever it is—as an extension of God’s work in the world. As we do so, we’ll find there is no better place to spread the good news of salvation than right where God has placed us. —Vernon C Grounds
