many of the TVs are programmable. my mom with her remote has done many strange things to various TVs. I usually can't figure out how to "undo".
She had one set on sleep... but for like 5 seconds into play time.
You just got the TV on & before you could reprogram, it went off.
I tried unplugging for long periods etc hoping it would go back to defaults but it never did.
Also can be programmed (like maybe yours is) to go on like an alarm clock
not sure, but maybe.
But that being said, I have a TV that has NOT been programmed (I have checked) that turns on now & then. the remote is in drawer & buttons not "hittable" by cats.
I attribute it to my departed dad, as I have nothing better to think of

Hi, Dolly.
Being a bad parent isn't the property on any one sex! I've seen as many dads holding it all together for their kids as I've seen moms.
Personally, I just don't marry wisely. I'm fat now: I call it my Jerk Repellant.

there is a rather creepy sense I get from mimes also. I think it goes back to a movie that I can't even remember..
and then there are the movies that dolls & toys are monsters
I was never into dolls anyway

We closely examined all the menu items and found that there is a timer you can set to turn the TV off, but nothing to turn the TV on. We also took the batteries out of the remote just to make sure, but to no avail. Very bizarre indeed. Not sure who or what could be possessing my TV set.

I was never into dolls anyway. That's one of my big phobias (don't laugh), but let's not get too much into this; I won't be able to sleep tonight!

Could it have been one of those killer rabbits that attacked Jimmy Carter while he was president.

It's a 36" Hitachi. I don't know the exact model number, but the remote model number is CLU-418U. Hubby bought the TV around 1999. There is one tall lamp next to the TV that takes regular light bulbs. Nothing florescent in the apartment at all.
To: A knight without armor
That is a neat picture, but I wouldn't pay that much for it either.
